Josh Koscheck is well known as having a stellar collegiate wrestling career, he was an NCAA Division 1 Champion at 174 lbs and won countless awards and was a four time Div 1 All American.

He was invited into the UFC after only his second MMA fight, a match in which he outworked Luke Cummo for a unanimous decision victory at a small New Jersey based fight promotion.

He was selected to compete in the first season of the SPIKE TV reality series The Ultimate Fighter but was eliminated from the competition in the semi finals by eventual champion Diego Sanchez.

He went on to defeat Christopher Sanford in The Ultimate Fighter 1 Finale event, and then Pete Spratt at Ultimate Fight Night 1. His first MMA loss came via rear naked choke at the hands of Drew Fickett at Ultimate Fight Night 2. He strung together 4 consecutive UFC victories in a row before being awarded a rematch with TUF 1 Champion Diego Sanchez at UFC 69, a fight that he won via unanimous decision. It should be noted that Sanchez was later diagnosed with a staph infection that most certainly affected his performance.

After his 5th consecutive octagon victory, Sanchez was given the opportunity to fight former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre at UFC 74, where he lost via unanimous decision.
