A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu legend, Werdum was most notably the Jiu Jitsu coach of Croatian PRIDE superstar Mirko Cro Cop.

His MMA career started in Brazil, but he quickly joined the PRIDE organization. His first foray into the UFC came at UFC 70, where he fought former Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski to a unanimous decision loss. The bout was criticized as lack luster and boring by most UFC fans, although Arlovski took the brunt of the criticism.

Some of his notable fight include a TKO victory over Gabriel Gonzaga and a submission win over Alistair Overeem.
