Born in Fond Du Lac Wisconsin, Eric Schafer cut his teeth In the Midwest Shootfighting tournaments in the late 1990’s. As his record stacked up he moved on to the HooknShoot tourneys, and then onto Xtreme Fighting Organization events, where he was crowned the XFO Light heavyweight Champion in 2006.

He made his UFC debut in August of 2006 at UFC 62 – Liddell vs Sobral where he submitted Canadain Wrestler and fellow Jiu Jitsu expert Rob Macdonald by Submission in the first round.

He fought four months later at UFC 66 – Liddell vs Ortiz II, Losing to The Ultimate Fighter 3 Champion and undefeated Michael Bisping by TKO in the first round.

Schafer is currently scheduled to face TUF alumni Stephan Bonnar at UFC 77 on October 20th, 2007.
