The Australian Open is the first of the four Grand Slam events in an annual season. The tournament was first held in 1905. Before the advent of the Open Era in 1968, the Australian Open was known as the Australian Championships.

Held in January, the Australian Open, like all the Grand Slam events, hosts men and women’s single competitions, men’s, women’s and mixed doubles as well as junior and master’s competitions.
