Wagering on UFC 91 - Nate Quarry vs. Demian Maia

Before Big Boy Brock Lesnar and superstar Randy Couture try to take each other down in the Octagon on Saturday night, Nate Quarry and Demian Maia will battle it out. Sports betting fans should definitely pay attention to the Quarry vs. Maia fight because out of every match on the Saturday card, this one might provide the best online wagering overlay. Let’s take a look at each fighter, the online sportsbook wagering odds and then analyze what might happen in this fight.
Demian Maia is a beast. He is the former jiu-jitsu world champion and no doubt is taking this bout very seriously. Although he’s from Brazil, Maia has trained in Las Vegas for this fight. Why? He wants to be able to take down a fighter like Quarry who is known as a very tough, very agile guy in the Octagon. Maia’s style is traditional Brazilian canvas fighting. He has the ability to get almost any opponent he faces onto the ground. Once he gets an opponent onto the canvas, that opponent is usually toasted. Maia is 9 and 0 in Octagon fighting.
Quarry on the other hand is a much different fighter. Nate Quarry came back just recently from taking a year off after an injury. His record is astounding at 16 and 2 and the fact he is coming off of a knock-out of Peter Snell signals that he has a shot to win this fight.
Here are the BetUS online sportsbook betting odds
Demian Maia - 240
Nate Quarry + 190
Style, style, style. That’s what it comes down to right? Whichever style prevails is going to go a long way in determining this battle. The styles are quite obvious. Maia will try to bide his time until he can get Quarry to the canvas. Quarry will try to keep his distance and outbox Maia, hopefully landing a serious punch or two in the right place that will end the fight on a KO.
To me this is the most interesting fight on the card from an online wagering point-of-view because both guys are equally great at what they do. Nobody can beat Maia in a canvas fight. Nobody can beat Quarry standing in front of him.
Because both guys are equally adept at what they do, finding the winner that deserves some of my online money is difficult. I like Maia a lot. It’s hard not to like a guy who is 9 and 0 in the Octagon and takes his craft seriously enough to leave his home country to train for a fight.
But there is something about Quarry that I just can’t explain. The guy isn’t afraid of anything, which might cost him in this fight, and there’s no doubt that he’s a much better stand up fighter than Maia. If Quarry can catch Maia with one of those patented to the temple shots, then forget it. Maia goes down and Quarry wins. Nate Quarry also has an experience edge. That should count for something.
That’s the online bet that I’ll be making - - on Nate Quarry to beat Demian Maia at + 190 in the BetUS online sportsbook.
