Forrest Griffin (16-6-0) vs. Tito Ortiz (15-6-1)

UFC 106 Odds: Griffin -145

In the main event of UFC 106 Forrest Griffin is looking to avenge the controversial split-decision loss to Tito Ortiz suffered at UFC 59. In the same breath Griffin is looking to gain back some of the UFC street cred he lost after a pathetic display against Anderson “The Spider” Silva at UFC 101.

Leading up to UFC 106: Forrest Griffin

Forrest Griffin’s piece-by-piece deconstruction at the hands of “The Spider” at UFC 101 has left a lot of fight fans wondering what, if anything, Griffin still has in the tank. After being knocked out in both fights since his controversial title victory, Griffin has been nothing short of brutal.

Griffin’s inability to take a punch as he did earlier on in his career has a lot of people worried about his jaw. What once was a staple of his game – he enjoyed getting punched in the face and said numerous times it got him into the fight – is no longer, and could have his career in jeopardy.

Griffin will be looking to prove the skeptics wrong and avenge the UFC 59 loss that should have been his win.

Leading up to UFC 106: Tito Ortiz

After an 18-month hiatus from the UFC, Tito Ortiz is back and looking to return to the light heavyweight throne he vacated just over six years ago. With an extended layoff from fighting, Ortiz has had time to get surgery on the back issues that have ailed him since he relinquished the light heavyweight title to Randy Couture at UFC 44.

On the flip side Ortiz is 18 months older and the clock is ticking against him. At 34 years old he is on the down slope of his career and with a 0-2-1 record in his last three fights may be slowing down.

UFC 106 Betting: Griffin versus Ortiz Matchup

One of the innovators of the ground and pound, Ortiz’ goal for this fight is clear. Take Griffin to the ground, impose his will upon him, and then beat him unmercifully until he is either out or the referee stops the fight.

For Griffin the strategy will be as it always is, stand and slug. Griffin’s game has evolved significantly since his TUF days but when it comes to a head Griffin would rather trade blows standing then work on the ground.

UFC 106 Betting: Outlook & Pick

This time the judges will get it right. Griffin will be more motivated then we’ve ever seen him before. With the loss he suffered just a few short months ago, Griffin will be foaming at the mouth in anticipation of redeeming himself.

Griffin will be prepared to check Ortiz’ shots and will end up standing, trading and catching the receiving end of numerous Griffin blows. Coming off a brand new six fight contract Ortiz simply won’t be as motivated as Griffin and as always Griffin’s heart will shine through.

Pick: Griffin will win this fight by a unanimous decision
