Josh Koscheck (13-4-0) vs. Anthony Johnson (8-2-0)

UFC Betting Line: Johnson -120

Despite being the second last fight on the card, most in the UFC know, have this fight pegged as the main event. Anthony “Rumble” Johnson is quickly becoming a fan favorite and this fight could easily be a contender for either fight of the night or knockout of the night, depending on how it plays out.

Leading up to UFC 106: Josh Koscheck

Josh Koscheck’s demolition of Frank Trigg served notice that Koscheck is back and his hands are not to be taken lightly. Koscheck finished the former contender by TKO just 1:25 into the first round of their fight.

It’s been an up and down ride since Koscheck’s loss to George St. Pierre at UFC 74. He hasn’t been able to show much consistency trading wins and losses to the tune of a 4-3 record over his last seven fights.

This fight against Johnson gives Koscheck the opportunity to shine on the big stage again and in doing so prove he can still hang with the UFC elite.

Leading up to UFC 106: Anthony Johnson

Anthony Johnson has proved without a shadow of a doubt that he is one of the fastest rising talents in the UFC. Johnson is a giant, walking around at nearly 220 lbs. and his ability to trim has paid dividends. His record of late leaves nothing to the imagination.

Johnson has been on a tear winning his last three fights and four of his last five. His only loss came after being poked in the eye and declared unable to continue a fight he was winning. His last two wins have both come via TKO in the first round.

UFC 106 Betting: Koscheck versus Johnson Matchup

For as good as Koscheck’s hands have become he needs to focus more on his roots and what got him into the UFC, his superior ground game. If he thinks, even for a second, that he has a chance against “Rumble” Johnson then that chance begins and ends on Johnson’s back. He is outclassed in the stand-up aspect of this match-up and should take heed as such.

Johnson’s game will be the exact opposite. Johnson is a striker through and through and has demonstrated that in his last two fights with back-to-back devastating knock-outs.

If Koscheck can split the stand-up aspect of the fight with Johnson, score takedowns and go to work on the ground he will win this fight. If Johnson can simply check Koscheck’s takedown attempts and force Koscheck to trade with him, he will walk away with a TKO.

UFC 106 Betting: Outlook & Pick

In the end, Johnson’s size will prove insurmountable. After a few checked takedown attempts Koscheck’s will stand and try to throw with Johnson. This is bound to end badly for the former TUF competitor.

Winning Pick: Johnson by either KO or TKO.
