Bet on UFC - UFC 88 Breakthrough

by BetUS Staff

The online UFC betting world is counting down the days until legendary former champion Chuck ''The Iceman'' Liddell (21-5) returns to the Octagon to battle unbeaten “Sugar” Rashad Evans (16-0-1) on Saturday, Sept. 6 in what will be one hell of a light heavyweight war, as two of the world's best MMA fighters finally meet.

This matchup was originally slated to take place on June’s UFC 85 card in London, England, but a torn hamstring constrained Liddell from the bout, which was the first time in Liddell's career he was forced to withdraw from a fight. But the additional wait has UFC wagering fans pumped for an event that pits a fighter looking to get a shot at reclaiming his championship against a hungry contender searching for his first title shot.

Liddell is coming off a three-round unanimous decision win over Wanderlei Silva last December. Prior to his victory over Silva, though, the 38-year-old suffered back-to-back losses (Quinton Jackson and Keith Jardine), leaving many wondering if a loss to Silva would be Liddell's last fight.

But the win erased all doubts about his conditioning and passion to get back to the top and set up the match with Evans. To regain his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship from Jackson, Liddell must first get by Evans, who's only the third undefeated fighter he's ever fought.

Evans burst on the UFC scene in style as a heavyweight in 2005 when season two of The Ultimate Fighter, winning four fights en route to the title. Evans then returned back to his natural weight class at 205 pounds, claiming five wins before fighting to a controversial draw against former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz in 2007. In his most recent trip to the Octagon, Evans scored a hard fought three round decision win over then-unbeaten Michael Bisping at UFC 78 last November.

Liddell is a great wrestler with phenomenal knockout power. His strikes has put to sleep some of the biggest names in the business including former champion Randy Couture (twice), Ortiz (twice), Renato Sobral (twice), Kevin Randleman and Jeremy Horn.

Evans is a terrific wrestler in his own rights with solid takedowns and takedown defenses and has shown improved striking skills. He's capable of ending fights on the ground or standing up with either hand.

This will be the UFC’s historic first trip to Atlanta, GA and fans at Philips Arena will be treated to dynamic MMA betting action. BetUS UFC odds are giving Liddell its respect at -280, listing Evans the underdog at +210.

Other fights on the UFC 88 card includes: Rich Franklin (-240) vs. Matt Hamill (+190); Karo Parisyan (-280) vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida (+210); Dan Henderson (-200) vs. Rousimar Palhares (+160); Martin Kampmann (Ev) vs. Nate Marquardt (-140) and more.
