Bet On UFC Fight Night - Diaz vs. Neer

by Robby Maddux

Spike TV is poised to deliver another free UFC betting event on Wednesday, Sept. 17 and there are four great fights on tap, starting at 8:00pm. This rendition of UFC Fight Night features a 155-pound battle between Nate Diaz (9-2-0) and Josh "The Dentist" Neer (24-6-1) in what promises to be a spectacular main event.

Diaz brings to the cage a good overall MMA record of 9-2, and in UFC action he's 8-1 and winner of his last four bouts. His most recent victory came against Kurt Pellegrino via submission (choke) in Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on April 2. Diaz's other three victories prior to the Pellegrino fight, accounting for his current win streak, also came by way of submission and none of those victims made it past Round 2, either.

Despite owning just one UFC win earned by technical knock out, which came in May, 2006 in the opening round versus Gil Rael, boxing is one-of-two of Diaz's most respected strengths with Jiu Jitsu being the other. In addition to having a sole UFC TKO, Diaz has been past Round 2 just once that resulted in a third-round UFC debut victory in 2005 over Alex Garcia.

Diaz's UFC success, four-fight winning streak and momentum he'll tote to the Octagon has impressed the number's guys who's chalked up Diaz the betting favorite at -200 with Neer being leashed the dog in the BetUS UFC odds at +150.

Neer's respectable 24-6-1 overall MMA record makes him a worthy opponent against Diaz, and a decent number of other competitors in the world's cage fighting top-series, so oddsmakers are being influenced by his UFC record of 3-3 and the fact he's lost two of his last three fights.

He's coming off an unanimous decision win over Din Thomas on April 2, and in fairness to Neer, his two defeats prior to his victory were against solid fighters in the likes of Nick Diaz (Nate's brother back in August of 2006) and Josh Burkman. Also, Neer has a victory on his UFC resume over the much respected former lightweight title challenger Joe Stevenson.

Analysis: Diaz's all-around game and stellar ground skills should prove too much for Neer to overcome. Diaz is beast on the ground with seven of his nine wins coming by submission. Many of Neer's defeats have also come by submission on the ground, which won't discourage Neer from taking the fight to the mat, where Diaz has the more superior talents.

UFC Free Picks: Nate Diaz -200

Other bouts on UFC Fight Night 15 at Omaha Civic Auditorium, NE includes co-main event Clay "The Carpenter" Guida vs. Mac Danzig; Ed "Short Fuse" Herman vs. Alan "The Talent" Belcher and Houston "The Assassin" Alexander vs. Eric "Ravishing Red" Schafer
