UFC 100 lives up to its billing… And then some
Lesnar, the favorite coming in to the UFC 100 fight, beat Frank Mir in the second round via TKO as he trapped him against the cage and pummeled him with straight fists on the ground to retain his heavyweight title belt. Afterwards, he flipped off the fans with both hands and said he would drink Coors Light instead of Bud Light, the UFC's main sponsor, because they refused to pay him.
Lesnar apologized for the remarks at the press conference following the fight as he showed up with a Bud Light, but some of the damage had already been done. Now, many fans are clamoring for a Lesnar-Fedor Emelianenko fight. Lesnar could also get the winner of Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez down the line.
Perhaps the second-most memorable fight on the night was Dan Henderson's win over fellow Ultimate Fighter coach Michael Bisping. Bisping tried to stick-and-move to stay away from Henderson but circled into his legendary right hand and got dropped. The heavy betting favorite Henderson leapt in and landed one more big shot for dramatic effect and admitted it was out of character for him and that he wanted to shut Bisping up with it, leading to even more controversy after their UFC 100 fight.
Georges St. Pierre had another dominating performance as a betting favorite as well, using takedowns to control Thiago Alves and retain his welterweight belt. He actually hurt his groin pretty badly in the fourth round but kept going and grinded out a victory.
Other winners included Jon Fitch over Paulo Thiago and Yoshihiro Akiyama winning a controversial decision over Alan Belcher. Mark Coleman also showed he might not be done yet by winning a decision over Stephan Bonnar.
