UFC 117: Silva vs Sonnen

After the excitement of UFC 116, Brock Lesnar has shown that he is the best in world! Lesnar defeated Shane Carwin and overcame the doubts of many UFC fans after coming back from a digestive disease and a year vacation from fighting.

But the excitement of UFC will be back soon! On Saturday, August 7, Anderson “The Spider” Silva will face Chael Sonnen for the UFC 117 headline matchup. Silva has been the leader of the 185-pound division for years, but he will face a new style of fighting when he meets Sonnen in the ring.

The event will take place in Oakland, California at the Oracle Arena, and will be aired live on Pay-Per-View. Other welterweight contenders seeing action at UFC 117 include Jon Fitch and Thiago “Pitbull” Alves in a rematch, along with Matt Hughes against Ricardo “Big Dog” Almeida.

Sonnen is a politician in addition to being a MMA fighter. His most notable win as of late came against Paulo Filho, as Sonnen is the only fighter to defeat him in 21 professional fights. Silva hails from Brazil, and is the current UFC Middleweight Champion. In addition, he holds the record for the longest winning streak in the UFC with 12 consecutive wins.
