Hollywood Park is offering a small stakes race on their Saturday sports betting card. It makes sense since Sunday, it being Father’s Day and all in the United States, should be a big race-day all over the country.

In any case, our Saturday Pick of the Day actually runs in the 8th at Hollywood Park in that minor stakes race. It’s time for online racebook fans to pad their bankrolls, rush out to the mall, and pick up that all important gift for pops!

Hollywood Park - - Race 8

$75,000 Round Table Handicap

For three-year olds and up

1 ¾ miles turf

March Side - - fair odds 3/1

Drysdale’s other horse in this stakes race, he also trains Cedar Mountain, is coming off of a terrible 16 length loss in the Grade III Berkeley Handicap at Golden Gate Fields. Hopefully, because March Side ran so badly, his odds might float up to around 5 to 1 or so. March Side’s turf form is terrific and Drysdale should definitely have this guy ready to show his best. I think he wins this easily.

Cedar Mountain - - fair odds 3/1

3/1 on the horse that figures to go off as the chalk sounds good to me. This is Neil Drysdale’s more popular horse and, because he’s coming off of a win, I doubt that anybody will have anything bad to say about him. He can lead or stalk and has the closing kick necessary in this field. The only problem is that I expect his odds to be very low. That makes him a good horse to use on the bottom of the exacta.

Porfido - - fair odds 5/1

The odds should be nice on this Frankel runner who is coming off of a lay-off. Porfido has the back-class to win this and because Frankel trains him there’s no doubt that he could prove tough. I expect him to lay close to the pace in this marathon turf race and then put in a solid effort at the top of the stretch.

Wagering Strategy

March Side is a stand-out on class. I believe a big wager on this horse to win is in order should he go off at anything close to 3 to 1. I will also use March Side as the key horse in exacta and trifectas over both Cedar Mountain and Porfido.
