Six days until the 2008 Belmont Stakes and although all eyes will be on Richard Dutrow, Kent Desormeuax and Big Brown next Saturday, there’s a very good race going off at Hollywood Park on Sunday afternoon that could very well help us get a few bucks into our pockets for Belmont Day.

Jade’s Revenge - - predicted odds 7/2

Jade’s Revenge just won at this distance on the Keeneland Polytrack. He also comes from one of my personal favorite barns, Graham Motion’s. I absolutely believe that Motion is just going to get better and better with these horses. He can stalk from that inside post and then make a nice run at the top of the stretch. The only knock is will he be able to hold off the late charge of Grade II winner Big Booster?

Victorian Prince - - predicted odds 5/1

Victorian Prince should have the front end all to himself. That makes him the pace play in this short field. But the issue is that he had the front end all to himself in that last Grade II he ran in and Big Booster got to him easily. Is he just a cheap horse who can’t take his game past the Allowance ranks? Maybe. Or, maybe he’s still learning how to get things done. Either way, he’s not a bad wager in this spot.

Big Booster - - predicted odds 8/5

The sure to be chalk is also one of the best claims in recent memory. Trainer Mike Mitchell has taken his time with this son of Accelerator for $50,000. He’s already won a Grade III and finished third in another Grade III and a Grade I. The horse has reaped significant dividends for team Mitchell since the claim. The only issue is that he has one style - - lie as far back as possible and then put in a Silky Sullivan type run.

Wagering Strategy

Jade Revenge is close to being a stand-out in this race which means the only way to really bet it, since Jade’s Revenge could off the chalk, is to bet Jade Revenge to win and key in exactas with Victorian Prince and Big Booster. I’m also going to bet Victorian Prince and Big Booster over Jade’s Revenge.
