Will someone please shut this guy up? I mean, seriously, folks. Richard Dutrow has gone to the point of saying that his fragile, soon to be humbled horse, Big Brown, could easily beat Curlin, the reigning horse of the year and worldwide acknowledged greatest horse on the planet because Curlin lost to the filly Rags to Riches in the 2007 Belmont Stakes.

Is there anything that comes out of Dick Dutrow’s mouth these days that makes any sense? The man is a complete mess. Statements like the one he made regarding Edgar Prado were bad enough, but calling out Curlin, who won the Preakness by beating Street Sense and almost won the Belmont against one of the best fillies to run in a very long time, is absolutely insane.

I seriously do believe that Dutrow is back on something. Hopefully, it’s just elation and not the sort of stuff he used to do when his life wasn’t so put together. He’s like the sports’ dad with a son in pee-wee football that’s running the forty yard dash in 5.8.

Sure, Big Brown is a good horse. Heck, he might be a great horse, but the fact remains that he hasn’t had to run against anybody in either one of the first two legs of the Triple Crown. Just so you know, Dick, Eight Belles, a filly, finished second in the Kentucky Derby to your unbelievably talented colt. What does that make the rest of the male laden Kentucky Derby field? Not that good, right?

Also, what about the Preakness where your super-horse got to lay it on against a bunch of wannabes? Seriously, to even compare your quarter-cracked cheapy to a horse of Curlin’s ability is a shame. You should know better.

First, let’s get to what the truth really is. Even if Big Brown makes the Belmont, and unlike almost everybody else on the planet, I’m not sure that he will, he will never race again. Ruining a horse to make history in the Triple Crown is one thing. Ruining it to prove that your crazy trainer knows what he’s talking about is another.

IEAH Stables won’t risk it with Big Brown. The Triple Crown will be enough - - should he win it. So, forget about ever running against a real thoroughbred star like Curlin. It’s not going to happen. Crazy Dick, you don’t want it to happen. Trust me on this one.

Second, Big Brown is not, no matter what Crazy Dick thinks, a lock in the Belmont Stakes. Crazy Dick came out today and said flat out that Big Brown winning the Belmont is a “foregone conclusion”. That’s the kind of talk I hear in my Gambler’s Anonymous meetings from guys who think its okay to skip the other 11 steps.

Crazy Dick, there’s a reason that no horse has done this in thirty years. And, no, it has nothing to do with the fact some trainers, like yourself, of course, are brilliant, while other trainers, like those who campaigned Smarty Jones are “not smart.”

I mean, nobody really thinks that maybe Nick Zito, Birdstone, and Edgar Prado had something to do with Smarty Jones losing the 2004 Belmont Stakes, right? It was because Smarty’s connections just “were not smart.”

I just don’t get it. I haven’t heard this much trash-talking since Tom Cruise decided to take on the American Psychiatrists Association.

But, like I keep writing, that’s okay. Let Crazy Dick keep talking until the gods of horse racing finally lay down the hammer.

I just hope that Big Brown, who really is a sweet animal, doesn’t get the worst of their wrath.
