Dear Bookie,

I am new at betting on horse racing and would like to get some clarification at two different expressions that announcers use. It's kind of trivial in the grand scheme of things, but it's eating me up not to know. What's the difference between the "backstretch" and the "back straight?"

thanks,

Bookie:

Aaron,

Here are your definitions. And there are no smal questions, only small bookies (of which we are not!). Anyhow, here you go.

A  backstretch is the straight way on the far side of the track, while the back straight is the straight length of the track farthest away from the spectators and the winning post.

Thank you for writing and good luck on the ponies.
