Ladies Wimbledon All American Final from the All England Club
Wimbledon WTA Finals Showdown – Which Williams Will Win?
The 2009 Wimbledon WTA championship has come down to the match that many predicted and that everyone wants to see – two-time defending champion, five-time Wimbledon winner and World No. 3 Venus Williams faces little sister and World No. 2, Serena Williams, a two-time Wimbledon champion herself.
The sisters reached the final in totally different fashion with Venus pouncing all over weak-minded World No. 1 Dinara Safina in 6-1, 6-0 semifinal shellacking that was the worst since Billie Jean King laid the exact same smackdown on Rosie Casalas – way back in 1969.
While Venus Williams has not dropped a single set in nearly two full years at Wimbledon, ‘little’ sis Serena was almost taken out by World No. 4 Elena Dementieva in their semifinal match, one of the best, if not the best ever, semifinal showdown at the All England Lawn and Tennis Association.
After dropping the first set 7-6, the younger Williams took the second set 7-5 before finishing off the game Dementieva in the final set 8-6.
Now, with the finals set, the extremely close sisters will go all out against each other.
This look at the upcoming finals showdown – and prediction on which sister will come out victorious, will give BetUS tennis betting enthusiasts everywhere all the insight they need in order to make a bankroll-boosting winning wager in Saturday’s Wimbledon final.
Venus Williams -150
Serena Williams +110
The Williams sisters are a dead-even 10-10 against each other in their careers with Venus winning 41 career singles titles and Serena, 33 career singles titles.
Venus Williams has won seven career Grand Slams titles while Serena is a 10-time Grand Slam champion.
The elder Williams has also won two singles titles this year while Serena has just one title – a Grand Slam win at the 2009 Australian Open.
Venus Williams has gone 21-6 so far this season while Serena Williams has recorded a 25-7 year-to-date mark.
This sisters have split two meetings this season with Serena winning at the sister’s ‘home’ tournament in Miami with a score of 6-4 3-6 6-3 in the semifinal round and Venus extracting some revenge more recently, winning at Dubai, 6-1 2-6 7-6(3) also in the semifinal round.
Analysis: I’ll keep my analysis direct and right to the point by saying what I’ve told thousands of other people by now – Venus Williams is going to win her third consecutive Wimbledon title to become the first woman to accomplish the feat since Steffi Graf did it from 1991-1993.
While younger sister Serena began the tournament as the odds-on-favorite to win the championship, I cast my chips with the elder Williams to win again and was absolutely perplexed by the oddsmakers decision to name the younger Williams as the favorite despite the fact that Venus Williams is the two-time defending champion and has not dropped a single set in ages.
Now, following their respective semifinals victories, oddsmakers everywhere have seen the light – and listed the elder Williams as the favorite – and rightly so.
Before I make my official pick, I think BetUS tennis fans everywhere may want to know that big sis certainly isn’t planning on taking it easy on little sis.
"I'm happy for her to be in the final, but I have to face her and defeat her," Venus told reporters following her semifinal win over Dementieva. "I don't necessarily want her to lose, but for sure I want me to win. I don't want to see myself disappointed. I need to get my titles, too. I'm still the big sister, but I'm still going to play great tennis."
While Serena Williams is clearly the most athletically gifted female tennis player on the face of the planet, I like Venus Williams to ultimately win this match and hoist her third consecutive Wimbledon Championship Trophy.
WTA Free Picks: Venus Williams to win 2009 Wimbledon Championship
As an added bonus, BetUS tennis sports betting members, I have included a props pick on the number of sets the sisters will play.
Set Betting Odds
Venus Williams to win 2-0 +160
Venus Williams to win 2-1 +250
Serena Williams to win 2-0 +200
Serena Williams to win 2-1 +300
Both matches the sisters have played against each other this year have gone to three sets – and five of the last six matches between the heavy-hitters have gone to three sets after the sisters played to three sets just four times in their first 14 head-to-head matches.
While I am going to take Venus Williams to win the 2009 Wimbledon final in three sets, it should be noted tennis bettors that only two of the 11 grand slam matches between the sisters have gone to three sets.
WTA Set Betting Pick: Venus Williams to win 2-1
