Gstaad, Switzerland – Listen up sports betting fans, now that Wimbledon betting is behind us, tennis betting does not stop. On the contrary, it is picking up with six tournaments being offered in the tennis gambling markets at BetUS.com. Therefore, here is a breakdown of some of the second round matchups at the Allianz Suisse Open.
Tennis Betting Line: Nicolas Kiefer vs. Guillermo Garcia-Lopez
Tennis Prediction: Germany’s Nicolas Kiefer headlined the play at the Allianz Suisse Open in the opening round, defeating Gianluca Naso easily 6-3, 6-2. Kiefer has had a few good months recently. He enters the second round with a 15-12 mark for the season. His best performance came in his home event in Hamburg, where he reached the final eight in the Masters Series event. In Halle Germany, he reached the semis. Most recently, he reached the third round of Wimbledon, where he lost to eventual champion Rafael Nadal. He owns a 2-0 lifetime record against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain. However, this is their first meeting on clay, a surface the Spaniard enjoys decidedly. This will be a close contest, but should the German continue in good form he should top Garcia-Lopez.
Tennis Free Picks: Kiefer in three sets
Tennis Betting Line: Flavio Cipolla vs. Mikhail Youzhny
Tennis Prediction: Russian Mikhail Youzhny started the 2008 season with a triumph in Chennai beating Rafael Nadal in the final. Since his promising start though, he has struggled to post impressive results in the tournament play. In Flavio Cipolla he faces a player who has really had no success on the main tour. Cipolla who coasts in the Challenger circuit only enters with a 2-3 mark for the year in ATP level play. Youzhny is the sure pick.
Tennis Free Picks: Youzhny in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Igor Andreev vs. Florent Serra
Tennis Prediction: Everyone knows Igor Andreev is a clay-court guru – well everyone except maybe him. If Andreev posted better results during the clay-court swing on the ATP tour he would be ranked so much higher, yet for some reason he consistently falls short of expectations. The No.34 Andreev brings a 22-19 record into the second round against No.77 Florent Serra, who holds a 12-12 mark for the season. Serra owns a match win against Andreev, but that victory was earned way back in 2005. Andreev is the better player. As long as he remains focused he should win.
Tennis Free Picks: Andreev in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Maric Cilic +160 Paul Henri Mathieu -210
Tennis Prediction: This is the most anticipated matchup in the second round as defending champion Paul-Henri Mathieu opens his title defence campaign against rising star Marin Cilic. This year, the pair has already met five times, most recently at the 2008 Wimbledon where Cilic narrowly took the victory in four sets. In fact, the last two victories went the way of Cilic. Their matchup has proven to be truly competitive with Mathieu holding a slim 3-2 edge owing to his R32 win at the All England Club a fortnight ago. With two back-to-back wins against Mathieu, I like Cilic’s odds to go one better.
Tennis Free Picks: Cilic in three sets
