Barclay’s ATP World Tour Finals: Djokovic vs. Davydenko

Bookmark and Share by Nila Amerova

London, England – Novak Djokovic and Nikolay Davydenko are set to close day 2 at the Barclay’s ATP World Tour Finals, Monday when they open their respective Group B campaigns. Novak Djokovic enters this match on a ten-match winning streak and with all sorts of momentum. Unfortuntaly, for him that is, so does Davydenko. The pair each picked several titles in the fall, including splitting the last two Masters Series titles on the season, and both come into this event as the form players.

Head-to-head, Djokovic and Davydenko are level, 2-2; most recently, Davydenko beat Djokovic at the Shanghai Masters semis, en route to the title (defeating Nadal in the final). Djokovic last beat Davydenko in the 2008 Tennis Masters Cup final.

Tennis Betting Verdict: Novak Djokovic has had an amazing fall swing. Since falling to Roger Federer in the US Open semis, Djokovic has been tearing up a storm on the ATP. He has gone 18-1 and picked up three titles – Beijing, Basel and Paris. The last two titles were back-to-back events, finishing the season on a high note.

Djokovic will be aiming to extend his winning streak at the expense of Davydenko; however, that he only lost to Davydenko during his recent run of good form suggests his opening match will not be a cakewalk.

Davydenko, on the other hand, will not be intimidated by his opponent that many consider the player to beat in London. He will be mindful of his 1-0 edge over the Serbian and take that confidence into this match.

Davydenko picked up titles in Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai in the fall swing, the latter event saw him beat Djokovic in the semis and back it up with a win over Nadal in the final. Taking out the world No.3 and No.2 player in succession is a strong statement indeed. A win for Davydenko would not be surprising, even though it would be considered an upset in the market.

The market is clear which the favourite and the underdog are but in my opinion it is a tossup. Djokovic enters a solid -300 favourite on the money line. Recent form and confidence make him a value favourite to bet on. If you want to split hairs: the same could be said of Davydenko. He is the value underdog at +200 because of his recent form and win over Djokovic.

There is no doubt this will be a hard-fought battle. Predicting the winner tough. If you don’t have a clear favourite amongst the two, then go with to the spread and totals. Taking Djokovic to cover the spread at -3 ½ -110 and the combined totals Over 22 ½ -130.
