The Orange Warsaw Open – one of two clay court events on the tennis betting markets – featuring defending champion Tommy Robredo and World No.4 Nikolay Davydenko, amongst several others, enters the second round. Here is a look at some of the upcoming sports wagering matchups, complete with BetUS tennis odds, fast facts and tennis free picks.
Tennis Betting Line: Santiago Ventura +200 Guillermo Canas -300
Match Time:05:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday June 12, 2008
Tennis Prediction: In spite of the money line, I believe this match to be open. The odds favour Guillermo Canas; but based on his performance this season, he is not a sure play. Canas entered the draw with an 11-11 mark for the season – having suffered disappointing turnouts in both the hard court and clay court swings in 2008 that saw his ranking drop from the top 20 to No.48. At 31-years-old and in questionable form, the veteran is uncertain. On the other hand, No. 80 Santiago Ventura is a tricky player. Coasting under the radar, competing in the lower circuit mainly and in clay court events at the ATP level, Ventura is a clay-court specialist. At +200 underdog odds, Ventura who reached the final in Sassuolo (Challenger event) last week holds value for the upset.
Tennis Free Picks: Ventura in three sets
Tennis Betting Line: Albert Montanes -170 Oscar Hernandez +130
Match Time:05:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday June 12, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Although Albert Montanes is favoured over Oscar Hernandez, the all-Spanish affair is more even than the odds would suggest. On paper, both players stack up evenly with No.70 Montanes entering the draw on an 11-13 mark for the season; while No.99 Hernandez takes a 10-13 mark. The clay court swing saw some encouraging results, particularly for Hernandez who reached the quarterfinal in Casablanca and the second round of Roland Garros. Montanes holds a 1-0 edge over Hernandez, having beaten him in 2007 at Vina del Mar. But based on Hernandez performance over the latter half of the clay court swing, he is the better play for the win.
Tennis Free Picks: Hernandez in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Wayne Odesnik +350 Tommy Robredo -600
Match Time:05:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday June 12, 2008
Tennis Prediction: Defending champion Tommy Robredo is the steep favourite in this match up and for good reason. Arriving in Warsaw with a 17-12 mark for the year, having won almost all of his matches on clay this season, he is a threat on the red dirt. No.96 Odesnik is a long shot bet at +350, but going in his favour is a R32 appearance at Roland Garros. I expect Odesnik will give Robredo a good challenge; but with Robredo in good clay-form, the Spaniard should persevere/
Tennis Free Picks: Robredo in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line: Olivier Rochus -140 Fabio Fognini EV
Match Time:05:00 AM Eastern Time, Thursday June 12, 2008
Tennis Prediction: This is the first-ever matchup between Olivier Rochus and Fabio Fognini. The favoured Belgian weighs in at No. 67 in the World, but arrives with a losing record for the season at 8-14. During the clay-court swing, Rochus failed maintain a winning streak beyond one match. Fognini on the other hand could be a dark horse in Warsaw. During the early clay court swing in 2008, Fognini enjoyed some encouraging results reaching the quarterfinals in Vina del Mar and the semi-final in Costa do Sauipe. Should he find the same form he should top Rochus with ease.
Tennis Free Picks: Fognini in three sets
