Favorites to Bet On at the US Open
by BetUS Staff
Flushing Meadow, New York – The online tennis betting community can turn to some exciting matchups in the second round of US Open currently available in the online sports gambling market at BetUS Sportsbook. Among the big names headlining the tennis betting action on Friday there are some exceptional players, who are favoured to advance from their second round matchups but will become future underdogs should they meet a top player deeper in the tournament.
Following their course through the US Open is an opportunity to determine whether credence in their game is warranted and whether they will indeed deliver an upset or two in the days coming.
Marat Safin caused the biggest upset at the 2008 Wimbledon championships when he ousted Novak Djokovic in the second round. Safin and Gonzalez are in Djokovic’s quarter and would potentially meet the Serbian sensation in the R16 and the quarterfinal respectively. Tommy Haas fell into Federer’s corner and he could meet the Swiss maestro in the quarterfinals.
Here is a look at this trio of favourites in the second round.
Tennis Betting Line Tommy Robredo -135 Marat Safin -105
Tennis Betting Analysis: Tommy Robredo is predominantly a clay courter. Over his career his best results came on the red stuff. In 2008, he had a poor early hard court swing. He salvaged his disappointing year with some encouraging results on the European clay-court swing.
He arrived in New York with a 4-4 mark in US Open series events. Overall this season he has a 28-17 mark (the bulk of which includes his good runs on clay).
Safin is the most enigmatic player on the ATP tour. He is an all-or-nothing kind of player. When he is on he is superb. When he is not he is abysmal. Two-time Grand Slam champion – the 2000 US Open and 2005 Australian Open – Safin has struggled over the last two years. He enjoyed resurgence in Wimbledon – on his least favourite surface – reaching the semis. Since then though, he has seen his game decline once again.
Tennis Betting Verdict: Lifetime Safin and Robredo are tied 4-4. They have not played since 2006 against each other. Both Safin and Robredo are on the favourite plane with Robredo slightly favoured over Safin. However, Safin is my pick. It all depends though on his mood. If he wants to he will win this match.
Tennis Free Picks: Safin in four sets
Tennis Betting Line Gilles Muller +400 Tommy Haas -700
Tennis Betting Analysis: Tommy Haas had a taxing first round match against Richard Gasquet of France but he finally beat the 12th seed in five sets, effectively handing the tournament the first big upset. Haas has had a bout of injuries this season, which sidelined him for a good chunk of the year and forced his ranking down. Nevertheless, he came into form during the event in Washington, reaching the semis. His big win he should have a lot of confidence coming into the next round. He was a quarterfinalist here last year.
Tennis Betting Verdict: His opponent No. 130 Gilles Muller should be an easy second round encounter compared to his opening match.
Tennis Free Picks : Haas in straight sets
Tennis Betting Line Bobby Reynolds +350 Fernando Gonzalez -600
Tennis Betting Analysis: Fernando Gonzalez is an exceptional hard court player. In 2007, he reached the Australian Open final (l to Federer). This year his best results came on clay early on, but he enjoyed a good summer and capped it off with the Bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics. Bobby Reynolds has home court edge but he is nowhere near the quality player Gonzalez is.
Tennis Betting Verdict: This should be a straightforward win for the Chilean Gonzalez.
Tennis Free Picks: Gonzalez in straight sets
