Slightly off their game, Tottenham Hotspurs try to come back against Blackburn Rovers

by Nila Amerova

Tottenham Hotspurs run of good form ended when they visited Fulham last weekend much to the disappointment of BetUS sports bettors that had backed the rejuvenated Spurs on their wagering tickets. The Spurs took their first loss since a losing to Stoke City on the away a month ago saw them go undefeated in their subsequent four.

The 2-1 loss at Fulham was aided by a blunder from goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes that gave the London rivals their first goal. Though Spurs manager Harry Redknapp’s unbeaten run ended, he backed his goalie firmly – yet dismissed goalkeeping coach Hans Leitert.

The Spurs camp was dealt another blow that night at Craven Cottage when Croatian midfielder Luka Modric picked up an injury that is now known to see him out of the line-up for at least two weeks.

So with the Hotspurs coming undone slightly how will they fair against Blackburn when the Rovers come to White Hart Lane?

Soccer Betting Line:

Tottenham Hotspur -½ -130 -130 2½ O -130 U +110 1½ O -140 U +110 Draw +240

Blackburn Rovers +½ +110 +375 2½ O -130 U +110 1 O Ev U -130

Match Time: 11:00 AM Eastern Time, Sunday November 23, 2008

Soccer Betting Analysis:

Tottenham Hotspurs -130: The Hotspurs had a good run lately but the double blow – the defeat at Fulham and the loss of Modric – expose them to a possible upset on Sunday. Moreover, error-prone goalkeeper Gomes is confirmed to start against the Rovers and that could be potentially disastrous for Spurs in their bid to regain lost ground in the League.

Blackburn Rovers +375: The Rovers are coming off a loss at Sunderland and their last six matches have seen them pick up only three points – they are 0-3-3.

The Rovers are in trouble. Simple as that. Moreover, their goalie has been even worse than Gomes between the posts. The 2:1 loss in Sunderland had him written all over it. Even Coach Paul Ince called his players effort diabolical and, claiming they should be embarrassed.

Soccer Betting Verdict: That being said, as the Spurs are coming up against a struggling club in the Rovers they may get a bit of a reprieve after all. As long as they avoid high-profile mistakes that is, they should take three points on Sunday. I expect this to be a rather scrappy affair and pretty low on the scoreboard.
