Real Madrid currently sit in second place in Group C, behind AC Milan, but level on points at 7 apiece. A win over Zurich FC on match day five would certainly see them through to the knockout stages, if not take over top spot. Real Madrid have the easier “on paper” matchup and most everyone expects the likely outcome: a Real win over Zurich. AC Milan on the other hand come up against Marseille, a side that could potentially, even if the odds are slim, deliver a surprise. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind the fate that awaits Zurich, a happy send-off and better-luck-next time.

Zurich FC are showing signs of strain and waging a campaign on two fronts seems to be overwhelming them. They have slipped in the domestic table, perilously close to the middle point. On the European stage they managed to seize three points with an upset win over AC Milan. But they didn’t make it count as they lost every other match since, the most recent and embarrassing 6:1 loss to Marseille.
Fact is Zurich have nothing left to hope for in Champions League and as such, I don’t expect they will expend too much energy against Real Madrid. The dire situation at home being now the priority I expect they will be looking to salvage their domestic campaign than try some heroics on the European stage.
