Don’t over complicate……the real genius!

How difficult can it be to make money playing poker? The answer is…..not very difficult at all and people complicate the process more than what they need to. Don’t get me wrong, if you desire to play high-stakes online poker then the number of obstacles that you will have to overcome will be considerable. The biggest obstacle is in not knowing enough about the game in many instances.

The tactical technical side of poker can be mastered in a relatively short time frame. This is akin to playing blackjack, the real genius lay in the hidden skills that you need to master. In short, the really difficult hurdles in poker are things that no book can ever teach you.

Discipline is key in poker and especially when it comes to things like controlling tilt and money management. The discipline to lay a hand down when you know that you are beat is part of what I mean. But yet we can talk about discipline and control until we grow old, talking about it and actually doing it are worlds apart.

When you do things in the heat of the moment that you know full well to be wrong then you have a problem with discipline. In a way this may be something that cannot be fully controlled as this means that you are trying to control behaviour patterns that are buried deep within your sub-conscious.

We have all done things on the spur of the moment and then realised that we were not in full control of the situation at that time or our behaviour for that matter. But keeping control of yourself is perhaps the holy grail for all poker players. If I had money in my pocket for every time that I have lost control playing poker than I would be a very rich man.

But the most difficult goals to attain in poker are not in how you play hands or certain situations but in how you control yourself, that really is the true genius of playing poker…… the rest you can learn with a little work and perseverance.
