Arena Football - Chicago Rush vs. Grand Rapids Rampage

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

Head Coach Steve Thonn and his Grand Rapids Rampage began their 2008 campaign hosting the defending champion San Jose SaberCats in Week 2 action. The Rampage put forth a valiant effort, but in the end, an Adrian McPherson fumble on their last possession ended Grand Rapids’ hope of opening up the season on a winning note (L 66-58). The schedule gets no easier for the Rampage, as they now take on the ArenaBowl XX champion Chicago Rush.

As for Mike Hohensee and his Chicago Rush, after opening up the 2008 season with a resounding victory against San Jose, they suffered their first setback of the year with a 60-49 home loss to the Philadelphia Soul. Long-time AFL QB Shredrick Bonner has been less than impressive, but sufficient in his first two games in the Windy City. His 57.7 completion percentage would be the 3rd lowest in his illustrious fifteen-year career, while his average of six touchdown passes per game would easily be the best he’s ever posted in a season.

Widely criticized for his inconsistency as a quarterback, McPherson fit his billing in the home opener for the Rampage. His 17 of 30 effort is much too low of a completion percentage to be successful in this league, but he made up for it on the ground by picking up 41 yards on nine carries with two scores. The Rush have dominated “AD Mac” in his AFL career, by winning all three games against the former FSU signal caller.

Chicago hits the road for the first time this season, though they may have more of a home-field advantage than the host Rampage who are known for drawing miniscule crowds at Van Andel Arena. In their L/10, Grand Rapids has only cashed against the spread in four games, and has lost three in a row SU in front of the home faithful.

The Rush is currently listed as 6-point chalks with a ‘total’ of 111-points. You can get down on these numbers right now at BetUS.com!!! In the last three meetings between these Central division rivals, Chicago has posted the ATS victory by an average of a whopping 13 points per game. The Over has cashed in Chicago’s L/3 overall games, but their previous 8 contests saw the under cash seven times. If Coach Ho’s “D” can keep McPherson contained, the under trend very well could continue.
