National Conference powers collide when Head Coach Tim Marcum’s (2-1) Tampa Bay Storm invades Philly to take on Jon Bon Jovi’s undefeated Philadelphia Soul. The Storm got to lick its wounds throughout its ‘Bye’ last week after getting humiliated by New Orleans the week before. Everything went wrong for them in that game and the VooDoo capitalized on it en route to the 76-55 beatdown of the Storm as 10.5-point home underdogs. The Storm won their previous road game at Kansas City back in Week 1. It wasn’t the prettiest exhibition put forth, but it was enough to secure the 51-49 road win and cover. Philadelphia has exploded out of the gates this season. They enter Week 5 a perfect 4-0 SU and ATS with victories against Orlando, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles.
Tampa Bay looked to be in good shape after one quarter of play against New Orleans a couple weeks ago, but the second quarter was one of the wildest 15 minutes this season. New Orleans started the scoring off to take a 21-14 lead, and Tampa QB Brett Dietz looked to answer on the following possession. Instead, he was picked off and had it returned for a 35-yard TD the other way. Then the VooDoo scored on a net recovery, and added another TD later after recovering another Storm fumble. To add insult to injury, the VooDoo returned Tampa’s last ditch attempt to put points on the board before the break when Seth Marler’s missed FG was returned 57 yards to put New Orleans up 48-14. When the dust cleared, Tampa turned the ball over eight times and had nobody to blame but themselves for their demise.
Philly let it be known that they’re most definitely a team to reckon with this season after going into Los Angeles last week and handing the Avengers a 71-34 shellacking to improve their mark to 4-0 SU on the year. QB Matt D'Orazio did a fine job taking over for an injured Tony Graziani by completing 28-of-42 pass attempts for 338 yards and eight TD passes. OS Chris Jackson snagged 10 passes for 167 yards with six touchdowns in the win. The Soul made minced meat out of the four-point spread and the combined score of 105 fell four points shy of the closing ‘total’ of 109.
Oddsmakers opened the Soul up as 11.5-point home chalks over the Storm with the ‘total’ set at a lofty 115 points. You can get down on all the Arena Football action your heart desires at BetUS.com right now!!!
