NHL Hockey Betting – Anaheim Ducks @ Chicago Blackhawks

by Mike Rose

Western Conference playoff desires are already in the air this Christmas season when the Anaheim Ducks (14-9-3) travel to the United Center to take on the Chicago Blackhawks (10-6-6). Last Friday, the Ducks squared off against the Blackhawks at home and were able to register the 1-0 sports betting win to the delight of the Ducks faithful. Across the ice, the Blackhawks are trying to halt a three game losing streak that’ dented Blackhawks bettors bankrolls.

C Ryan Getzlaf has been nothing short of phenomenal for Anaheim bettors this season, with a team high 31 points, a total that has him tied for third in the NHL. RW Teemu Selanne has also been impressive, with a league high 12 power play goals. He’s contributed into making the Anaheim power play one of the best in the NHL at scoring goals 21.2% of the time with the advantage. While not stellar, the Ducks offense has helped Anaheim win four of its last five games for NHL gamblers.

Goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere has put up decent numbers in goal for the Ducks, but nothing reminiscent of his Conn Smythe winning performance. Giguere has posted a pro hockey betting record of 8-7-2 with a 2.95 GAA and a .912 save percentage, while backup Jonas Hiller has posted a dazzling 6-2-1 record with a 1.99 GAA and a .934 save percentage. Giguere and Hiller have been great recently, allowing only eight goals in the Ducks past eight games, good news for bettors who gamble on NHL games to go under the ‘total’ with all six games going under per the closing NHL odds.

The Ducks are very good on the power play, but the Blackhawks have been even better on the year cashing in at a 21.6% clip with the man advantage. In their last game, a 5-2 pro hockey wagering loss to the Kings, the Blackhawks scored one of their two goals on the power play, with RW Patrick Kane getting the tally. Kane is also currently leading the team with 28 points (12 G, 16 A), six more than teammate Patrick Sharp.

Goaltending has been a major issue for the Blackhawks this season, with Nikolai Khabibulin and Cristobal Huet combining for a 2.67 GAA and a .912 save percentage. The Blackhawks offense combined with their lackluster backstopping has been a goldmine to over bettors with it going 10-4-1 by the pro hockey betting lines over their past 15 games.

Current NHL betting trends for bettors to be aware of for this game include: Anaheim is 13-6 in its last 19 games against Central Division opponents; Chicago is 24-55-3 in its last 82 games against Pacific Division opponents; and the Ducks are a startling 20-6-2 in their last 28 games against Chicago.

NHL lines have the Blackhawks as a -140 moneyline favorite in this game with a ‘total’ of 5.5 goals shaded to the under at -120 odds.
