Vancouver Canucks visit former captain Naslund, New York Rangers
by Mike Rose

A rematch of the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals will take place Wednesday night in Madison Square Garden when the New York Rangers (14-5-2) play host to the Vancouver Canucks (10-6-2). Vancouver is currently in first place in the Northwest Division after winning four out of its last six games for NHL bettors. On the other side of the ice, the Rangers are still in first place in the Eastern Conference, a position that they’ve held since the start of the sports betting season.
Their last time on the ice, the Canucks suffered a tough 2-1 overtime pro hockey wagering loss against the other team from New York to start their four game road trip. Pavol Demitra assisted by the Sedin brothers scored their lone goal. Canucks bettors should note that Daniel and Henrik Sedin are also leading the Canucks in points on the season with Henrik tallying three goals and 12 assists and Daniel scoring six goals to go with eight assists.
G Roberto Luongo is again claiming his place at the top of the NHL, leading the NHL with five shutouts already this season and having a scoreless streak of over 200 minutes at one point. Luongo is an impressive 10-5-2 ATS this season with a 2.14 GAA and a .928 save percentage. However, despite Luongo’s impressive numbers, the Canucks first eight games all went over the ‘total’ by the NHL betting odds, but over their past 10 games, the ‘under’ has cashed eight times for NHL gamblers.
New York has been on top of the Eastern Conference standings since its first game and with three straight pro hockey betting wins, they don’t appear to be relinquishing the lead any time in the near future. RW Nikolai Zherdev is currently the team’s leading scorer with seven goals and nine assists through 21 games. In his last game, Zherdev scored the game winning shootout goal to claim victory for Rangers bettors.
The Rangers also have their own outstanding goalie to go against Luongo, in G Henrik Lundqvist. Lundqvist has posted a NHL wagering record of 12-4-2 ATS this season with a 1.92 GAA and a .931 save percentage. These numbers again look to make him a serious contender for the Vezina Trophy in ‘08.
Some NHL betting trends for bettors to know heading into this game are: games have gone over the ‘total’ by the pro hockey line in seven of the Canucks last nine road games, New York is 19-9 over its L/28 games against a team with a winning record, and that the Canucks have dominated the Rangers winning seven of their L/8 meetings.
NHL lines have the Rangers as a -140 moneyline home favorite against Vancouver with a ‘total’ of under five goals shaded toward the under at -130 odds.
