NFL Week 7 Picks – Detroit Lions vs. Houston Texans

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

Week 7 NFL betting commences on Sunday afternoon, and BetUS Sportsbook presents what could be another great football betting affair when the Detroit Lions (0-5, 1-4 ATS) invade Reliant Stadium to clash with the Houston Texans (1-4, 1-4 ATS). These two intra-conference opponents have only met once before. The Lions beat the Texans 28-16 in the Motor City as three-point favorites back in 2004.

Just when Lions fans thought it was safe to take the bags off of their heads, defeat was snapped from the jaws of victory again in their Week 6 betting affair with the Minnesota Vikings.

With QB Jon Kitna sidelined for the remainder of the season, Connecticut product Dan Orlovsky completed 12/21 passes for 150 yards and one touchdown, but had the most costly and hilarious play of the game when he inexplicably ran out of the back of the end zone on a deep drop back earning the Vikings defense another safety that would ultimately be the difference on the scoreboard between the two teams.

At least NFL betting aficionados racked up their first victory of the season, Detroit had no problems covering the 13-point spread. News got worse for the Lions for the rest of the season this week, as they traded WR Roy Williams to Dallas at the trade deadline for a bevy of picks in the 2009 draft.

The cardiac Texans played in their third consecutive game that came down to the final gun in Week 6, but for the first time all season, they came out victorious. They were favored by three points on the closing football betting line, and had a chance to salvage a push for their NFL bettors with just 0:03 left after QB Matt Schaub scored on a QB-keeper on 4th down to give Houston a much-needed 29-28 victory.

WR Andre Johnson had a massive game, hauling in 10 passes for 178 yards and a score. RB Steve Slaton continues to produce well out of the Texans backfield, carrying the ball 15 times for 58 yards.

Former #1 overall pick DE Mario Williams sacked QB Chad Pennington twice, giving him a total of six for the season, the second best mark in the NFL. Don’t let the 1-4 record deceive you. The Houston offense ranks 5th in the NFL with 362.6 yards per game.

Oddsmakers have installed the Texans as nine-point favorites, with the ‘total’ coming in at 46.5. Last week marked the 7th straight Texans game that has gone ‘over’ the ‘total’, with their average game eclipsing 56 points. NFL bettors should consider adding the ‘over’ to your football betting card this weekend.

Betting trends aren’t looking good for the slumping Lions. They are 0-3 SU and ATS in their L/3 games with AFC South opponents, and last week broke a string of seven consecutive ATS defeats.
