NFL Week 4 Free Picks - Can The Real AFC Champion Please Stand Up?

A horde of AFC teams play the part of host in the early action on our NFL betting board. The Jets seek redemption after getting embarrassed against the Chargers, while the Bengals and Browns are simply seeking a semblance of respect from the NFL betting community. The Titans host the Vikings in what promises to be a bruising match-up for either side while the Broncos hit the road to beat up on a Kansas City team that looks like the worst team in football. Who are you betting on this weekend? Let’s run down the early games featuring your favorite AFC picks.

The Arizona Cardinals take their 2-1 SU/ATS record in to Manhattan against Brett Favre and the Jets. Arizona is 2-4 ATS on the road in their last 6 road trips. The Cardinals have a stiff secondary, and the Jets have been giving up points in bunches. They allow 211.3 passing yards per game, and are being exposed for their lack of chemistry. I just don’t think they’re that good at the end of the day. While the Cardinals seem like an attractive play in what is essentially a pick ‘em, I like the Jets to improve to a 2-2 SU/ATS standing by beating Arizona in the UNDER.

In the game that will be the mainstay of my HDTV afternoon, the Vikings and Adrian Peterson will battle the tenacious Titans and Chris Johnson. Both teams love to run and stop the run. However, the Titans passing game has been much more reliable. While Tennessee has averaged 24.0 points per game, they’ve only given up 9.7 points against. For a team like Minnesota, which averages 162.0 rushing yards per game, but fails to get in the endzone, the Titans will provide a disastrous challenge. That alone is enough to intelligently bet on the Titans at -3 in the UNDER. Beware of Gus on the road, my betting investors.

The battle for Paul Browns love shakes down at Paul Brown Stadium where the Bengals and Browns will look to get their first win of the season. Braylon is injured, the league has figured out Derek Anderson and Jamal Lewis looks like a lumpy potato rolling down a bumpy will. If you don’t get my drift, just stay smart and bet on the Bengals who showed signs of life against the Giants, which is way more than you can say about the soon-to-be 0-4 Browns. Nice “sexy underdog” pick, America! It still sucks to be in Cleveland.

The other open-shut game of the week is Houston visiting Jacksonville, where the Jacksonville Jaguars need to cover a 7-point spread to beat Houston. The Texans are one of those teams that could explode at any moment. Houston is 5-10 in their last 15 games and 0-5 ATS and SU in their last 5 games on the road. They’re simply not to be trusted, so take the Jags to cover and keep pace with Tennessee.

The Broncos have been a huge point-getter thus far, putting up – are you ready for this? – the exact same stats as the New England Patriots in 2007. The only difference? Last year’s Patriots didn’t’ allow 28.0 points against per game. The Chiefs are hardly a threat. They’re a blithering mess, with only 10.7 points per game on average and they’re not due for an offensive explosion any time soon. Denver is 1-1-1 ATS and will take this simply spread as they decimate Kansas. They’re not a great road team, as their 1-4 ATS record has proven in their past 5 road trips. But Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall have no equal in Kansas so bet safely and happily on Denver to cover the OVER and the spread en route to a blistering 4-0 record to open the season.

Denver looks like the team to beat in the AFC thus far. Whether they can keep this pace up is another question, but having the Patriots and Colts on a bye week will give them a chance to gain some ground in the standings.
