NFL Sunday Showdown – Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles
by Tim Furious

The Phillies may have gotten burned in the World Series, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t hope for them nabbing a championship yet. The Philadelphia Eagles are nipping at the heels of Minnesota and New Orleans as the third dog in a tight race for the NFC title. But suddenly, the Dallas Cowboys look dangerous. Maybe while the Boys are in town, Romo can get some advice from McNabb about how to deal with a diva receiver.
Roy Williams is finally doing what all malignant receivers eventually do: he’s letting his mouth do the talking his play should be doing. Williams says emphatically that he’s not trying to be like T.O., but complaining about his role in the offense when a team is winning is EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT OWENS EVER DID.
When the Cowboys were winning, you never heard a word from T.O. It’s when they lost that he got upset. What kind of idiot starts blabbing about his stats when a team is on a three game winning streak? Romo now has to stand up and unite a locker room and Williams is trying desperately to fragment.
The opposite is happening in Philly where McNabb is in sync with a young band of misfits named DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy. Westbrook is selflessly being the team player we’ve always known him to be, and the Eagles are thriving with a 4-1 SU record over the past five games including a win over the New York Giants.
This game belongs to the Eagles right now, but Philadelphia’s rushing defense, ranked 22nd in the league at home, needs to step up and defend the house with a three headed monster headed their way.
Dallas Cowboys (5-2) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (5-2)
Sunday, November 8th --- Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia --- 8:20pm EST
NFL Betting Line: Philadelphia -3 (49.5)
The trio of Barber-Choice-Jones is a tough tandem to beat, and the Cowboys need a balanced attack from their rushing game for the passing game to open up. How does 147.6 yards per game sound to you? In fact, both teams are strikingly similar in the stat columns except that Dallas is notably much better at smashing the football on the ground, while the Eagles’ pass defense is superior.
Sounds like a great game recipe for Dallas. Listen, I’ve been harping on Romo for nearly two years now. I’ve wanted him to become the leader he’s supposed to be. Williams has given him that opportunity. Dallas has overcome some heavy duty opponents this season, and nearly beat the Giants despite a horrific performance by Romo. Everything that’s clicking in Dallas right now is enough to make me believe, despite the distraction of their princess.
If you really want to know the definition of “overrated” then look at the Eagles schedule. They’ve beaten Carolina, Kansas City, Washington, Tampa Bay and the Giants. Only one of those teams has a winning record. Who have they lost to? The Saints…and Oakland. While a two-game win streak is nice and cozy, I haven’t seen enough from Philly when they play balanced, complete contenders.
Dallas is dangerous right now. Run through their schedule, and they’re beating up on the same kind of crap Philadelphia is. But there’s one discernable difference. Their losses have been by an average of -4.5 and they lost to the Giants and Broncos. That kind of evidence makes me feel comfortable siding with Romo.
After this game I’ll know two things: how legitimate the Eagles are, and whether Romo is a true leader or not. I’m betting on the latter. Where do you stand?
Furious Free Pick: Dallas +3 (OVER)
