BetUS Sportsbook bettors have a lot of things to wager on. Why not do some online betting on which team will have a player arrested next?
Football players, not to mention all athletes in our major team sports, are young men with a lot of money and a lot of time on their hands, especially in the so-called off-season. Some teams have been known to be more "accident-prone" than others, as you can see from the BetUS odds on this proposition below:
BetUS NFL Futures Betting
Team to have next player arrested
Dallas Cowboys 15/1
New York Giants 25/1
Philadelphia Eagles 15/1
Washington Redskins 25/1
Buffalo Bills 25/1
Miami Dolphins 10/1
New England Patriots 25/1
New York Jets 25/1
Arizona Cardinals 25/1
San Francisco 49ers 25/1
Seattle Seahawks 25/1
St Louis Rams 25/1
Denver Broncos 20/1
Kansas City Chiefs 20/1
Oakland Raiders 20/1
San Diego Chargers 25/1
Chicago Bears 25/1
Detroit Lions 18/1
Green Bay Packers 25/1
Minnesota Vikings 20/1
Baltimore Ravens 25/1
Cincinnati Bengals 5/1
Cleveland Browns 25/1
Atlanta Falcons 8/1
Carolina Panthers 25/1
New Orleans Saints 25/1
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 25/1
Houston Texans 25/1
Indianapolis Colts 15/1
Jacksonville Jaguars 25/1
Tennessee Titans 25/1
This is admittedly a tongue-in-cheek proposition, so I thought I would give a tongue-in-cheek analysis, at least to an extent. First of all, I think the Atlanta Falcons (8/1 in BetUS odds) are getting a bad rap, just because their team leader - Michael Vick - got the stiffest punishment of all last off-season. You see what happened to that team, but there's a new attitude around Atlanta these days, with a new coach, a new front office and a new quarterback (Matt Ryan). By the way, unlike Bobby Petrino, the new coach (Mike Smith) is a no-nonsense type who manages to get along with the players, so I think Atlanta may find itself back in the pack in this category.
The Cincinnati Bengals (5/1 in BetUS odds) are always going to be a factor considering their history. I believe that 45% of the roster has been arrested for something in the last two years. I'm making that up, but it's not far from that. You may count the Bengals out of the AFC North race, but don't EVER count them out of this proposition.
Actually, our guys at BetUS are probably making massive adjustments as we speak regarding the Indianapolis Colts (15/1 in BetUS odds), since a gun owned by Marvin Harrison was apparently involved in a shooting in Philadelphia. No past-posting on this one please.
Cleveland (25/1 in BetUS odds) is a non-starter here. On my last trip there I was taking my brother to the Cleveland Clinic. The night before he was checking in, we drove around looking for a place to eat. It was about 12:30 in the morning, and we got so frustrated finding a place - even if it was a bar - that we had to drive all the way out to University Heights to find a 7-Eleven. I can say that the places one can get himself in trouble in Cleveland are very limited. I may have to put Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Tennessee, Buffalo, Carolina and St. Louis, all priced at 25/1 in the BetUS betting odds, in the same category.
The Miami Dolphins (10/1 in BetUS odds) are priced about right. Unlike Cleveland, there are a truckload of places in the Miami area, all the way up to Fort Lauderdale, where a player can get himself into trouble. And many have. In fact, I wonder if there could be a sub-category in this prop, which is "city where players from other cities get arrested." Everybody wants to go to South Beach, it seems. It's not even a cool place for us locals anymore. But it's a place where you can easily get arrested for something. Yes, that's may play, regardless of Bill Parcells' presence.
The Green Bay Packers (25/1 in BetUS odds) are way underpriced. First of all, the number of people who live in Green Bay is so much less than the number of people who live in any of those other NFL markets that it isn't even fair to put them in the same prop. There are far less people to rob, beat up, and buy drugs from in Green Bay than there are in other cities. And how many bars can there possibly be for players to get into brawls and/or leave drunk and driving? Heck, Green Bay isn't even a city; it's more like a town. Of course, the flip side is that players tend to have more contact with the fans there than in other places. I guess all variables must factor into your handicapping process.
My question - since everybody in that town, it seems, owns stock in the team (look it up if you don't believe me), does that mean ANY arrest that takes place in Green Bay get chalked up to the Packers?
No, but maybe it should. Seriously, I think we need to include owners and coaches in this prop as well. I'd like to handicap who the next assistant coach to get caught driving down the street naked is going to be (Google "Joe Cullen Detroit Lions" for that one).
