NFL Furious Free Picks – Week 2 Preview Part 1
by Tim Furious
Green Bay Packers (1-0) vs. Detroit Lions (0-1)
Sunday, September 14th --- Ford Field, Detroit --- 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: Green Bay -3 (44.5)
I’m just glad that the Detroit Lions betting community can quit while they’re ahead. No more, “this is OUR year” talk. No more touting Jon Kitna as a pro-bowler. None of it. It’s awesome. The universe is restoring itself to normal and I couldn’t be happier.
Aaron Rodgers and the Packmen will destroy Detroit any which way they choose. They allowed 318 rushing yards, and now face Ryan Grant who can bash them senseless. If Matt Ryan could post 156.0 yards, imagine what a trained and experienced Aaron Rodgers could do against this secondary. Bet on Green Bay Packers to win outright in an embarrassing victory.
If you think Kitna was bad against Atlanta, just imagine how horrific he’s going to do against an opportunistic Charles Woodson and company. They only allowed 168.0 yards last weekend in the air. Don’t expect Jon Kitna to explode all of a sudden. It’s a stupid NFL bet.
Now I really wish I hadn’t flubbed on Jennings in the fantasy draft! Damn you, Joey Galloway!
NFL Betting Free Picks: Green Bay -3 (OVER)
Chicago Bears (1-0) vs. Carolina Panthers (1-0)
Sunday, September 14th --- Bank of American Field, Carolina --- 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: Carolina -3 (37)
It’s the battle of the upstarts! As I said in the BetUS Endzone this week, Carolina is my official “Kitchen Sink” team of 2008. What’s a Kitchen Sink team? It means that they have to play perfectly to win the game. If they don’t, they get blown out in a big way. Last year’s team was Denver. This year’s is Carolina, which has talent to justify a 5-1 ATS record in their last six games. But there’s no way they can hold it up.
Chicago won a well coached battle against Indianapolis to reward those that instilled some betting faith in them with our NFL sportsbook. Chicago is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games and their stifling defense is finally healthy. Even if you don’t believe in Matt Forte, believe in a team that is too terrified to put the game in the hands of Kyle Orton. Love Chicago with points in this matchup.
NFL Betting Free Picks: Chicago +3 (OVER)
New Orleans Saints (1-0) vs. Washington Redskins (0-1)
Sunday, September 14th --- FedEX Field, Washington --- 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line:New Orleans -2 (43.5)
I don’t believe whole heartedly in the Saints, especially with Marques Colston sucking his thumb on the bench. I mean, they looked OK against the Buccaneers, but Tampa looked terrible! And it still took a big play by Reggie Bush to win the game. Counting on Reggie to do that every game to squeak out victories for an overrated team is a lot to gamble on.
Good thing for New Orleans that Washington looks absolutely lost on the field. Chris Cooley may be the coolest guy to hang out with, but this team is a sinking ship (as usual) so don’t get caught with your betting dollars stored below. The Redskins are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 because of Todd Collins, not Jason Campbell.
NFL Betting Free Picks: New Orleans -2 (UNDER)
New York Giants (1-0) vs. St. Louis Rams (0-1)
Sunday, September 14th --- Edward Jones Stadium, St. Louis --- 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: NYG -6 (42)
The Giants hit the road to St. Louis to take on perhaps the ugliest team in the league. At least the Kansas City Chiefs are rebuilding. Whatever St. Louis is trying to do is the flatulence of when apathy eats too much stupidity. The Rams have only gone 1-4 ATS in their last 5 outings and look nothing short of horrific.
Eli Manning and Plaxico won’t have to worry too much about a defense that is depleted along the front line because St. Louis can’t do anything right. If you want to take a risky NFL sports gamble, then take the Rams. But hey, if you’re dumb enough to bet on them this weekend, then you might be qualified to work in their front office!
NFL Betting Free Picks: NYG -6 (OVER)
