NFL Betting - Week 5 Home Dogs
There are five home dogs on the docket for Week Five from all ends of the spectrum. Some are desperate for a win, some are undervalued and for some, the expectations are pretty low. Let’s take a closer look:
Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans (+3)
The Houston Texans are one of only four winless teams in the NFL and quite frankly, they are probably the best. Best staring right in their face is the Indianapolis Colts, who are fresh off a bye week and have potentially regained the offensive rhythm they lacked early in the season.
The Texans are 2-0 in their last two spots as a home dog of three points or less but they are facing an equally desperate team. The Texans should be fired up in their return to Reliant Stadium after Hurricane Ike and if they can channel their emotion, should be capable of winning.
Pick: Texans +3
Tennessee Titans @ Baltimore Ravens (+3)
On a short week, the Baltimore Ravens find themselves as a three-point home underdog at home against the Tennessee Titans. It’s pretty clear that the Ravens offense still has some issues but their defense is absolutely ferocious. All week long they’ve heard about the Titans defense while their unit still is not getting much respect. On offense, there really isn’t much between the two teams. Ravens rookie quarterback Joe Flacco played really well in his first road start in Pittsburgh last week and look for his strong play to continue back at home. The Ravens are 3-1 in their last four games as a home underdog of three points or less.
Pick: Ravens +3
San Diego Chargers @ Miami Dolphins (+6.5)
The Miami Dolphins stomped the New England Patriots and even after a bye week, they aren’t getting much respect.
The San Diego Chargers are still perceived to be one of the top teams in the AFC while expectations are still low for the Dolphins. The Chargers have been a road favorite of 3.5 to seven points six times in the last three years and they have only covered once. Miami is also 7-2 against the spread in the last nine meetings.
Pick: Miami +6.5
Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions (+3.5)
The Detroit Lions are winless, downtrodden and beat down. About the only good news they’ve received is that general manager Matt Millen has finally been fired and that they are off a bye week.
The Bears are not a team that traditionally travels well or plays well in domes. They are 49-83 on the road since 1992 and are just 17-30 in their last 47 dome games.
The Lions are 2-0 against the spread in their last two games following a bye week and they are 3-0 against the spread (and 15-7 in their last 22) as a home underdog of 3.5 to seven points.
Pick: Lions +3.5
