NFL Betting Preview - Tennessee Titans vs. San Francisco 49ers
by Tim Furious

The Titans finally got on the board, and the unlikely hero this time was Vince Young. The Titans are out of the running for a playoff spot after barreling to a 1-6 SU record, but they can still cause some uprisings in the NFL landscape. That could very well start this weekend with a beat down on the San Francisco 49ers.
Young played a near perfect game, completing 15-of-18 passes for 125-yards and a score with a 114.1 passer rating. If he’s managing the game, you’re in good hands. The guy can scramble and limiting the throws he needs to make is the key to his success. When Chris Johnson is tearing off 228-yard games, it certainly helps to reduce Vince’s role in the offense. And that’s a good thing. You don’t want a game in the hands of a moody Vince Young.
San Francisco’s home rushing defense allows 103.0 yards per game, and while home is sweet for some, it’s bittersweet for the Niners. They’re 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games at home, but the memory of a 10-45 spanking from Atlanta still lingers. The Niners have problems on defense and Chris “Coach’s Dream” Johnson is becoming a dangerous weapon that San Francisco doesn’t have the personnel to stop.
Tennessee Titans (1-6) vs. San Francisco 49ers (3-4)
Sunday, November 8th --- Candlestick Park, San Francisco --- 4:15pm EST
NFL Betting Line: San Fran -4 (40.5)
Alex Smith and Vince Young are both first round quarterback who have been mired by scrutiny from their peers and the media. Yet both are now enjoying a resurgence of sorts. Smith wrestled the starting job back from Shaun Hill, and his canon of an arm is finally delivering. But a 1-4 SU record in the past five games nullifies stats. The Niners are trying to get through the gauntlet of their AFC South matchups, but they’re already 0-2 SU and 1-1 ATS in that series.
I had all the faith in the world in San Francisco after a great start this season, but I think that the fire is finally light in Tennessee. Sure, one game doesn’t cure six straight losses, but if Titans want to be a force this season, then they’ll play spoiler to all the teams that have a realistic hope of making the playoffs. Funny how “spoiler” is the only way that anyone will remember these Titans in 2009.
