Monday Night NFL Gambling - Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers

Bookmark and Share by Charles Jay

A couple of teams off to quick starts will hook up on Sunday night football on NBC when the Dallas Cowboys (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS) visit the Green Bay Packers (2-0 SU & ATS) in an NFL contest that is set to get underway at 8:15 PM ET at Lambeau Field (natural turf) in Green Bay, WI.

BetUS NFL betting odds: DALLAS -3; Total 51

NOTABLE STAT: Dallas has scored 69 points in two games
KEY NFL FOOTBALL BETTING TREND: Packers have played ten of last 11 games over the total

In the BetUS NFL football betting odds, the Cowboys are listed as a three-point favorite, with a posted total of 51 points.

Here are some NFL football betting trends as they relate to this matchup (reflecting numbers going into the 2008 season):

* DALL has covered one of its last seven games
* DALL has won 15 of its last 19 games SU
* DALL has played five of its last six games UNDER the total
* DALL has won eight of its last nine road games SU
* DALL has played 14 of its last 20 road games OVER the total
* GB has covered four of its last five games
* GB has won 20 of its last 24 games SU
* GB has played ten of its last 11 games OVER the total
* GB has covered six of its last seven home games
* GB has won seven of its last eight home games SU
* GB has played its last five home games OVER the total

Also...

* DALL has covered even of the last nine meetings
* DALL has won 10 of the last 12 meetings SU
* Eleven of the last 12 meetings have gone OVER the total

If you recall, the last time these two met, it was Aaron Rodgers' "coming out party," so to speak, as the former first-round pick out of Cal got his first extensive game experience, completing 18 of 26 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown. Rodgers is getting passing grades so far in 2008 as Brett Favre's successor, with a 70% completion rate and four TD passes without an interception and only one sack.

We can't disparage Tony Romo, who is getting the ball out quickly (no sacks) and is finding his ace receivers, big-play guy Terrell Owens (eight catches, 176 yards) and short-range guy Jason Witten (13 receptions, 206 yards!) with regularity. Ryan Grant is being bothered with a hamstring injury, while his Dallas counterpart, Marion Barber, can do the ground 'n pound against a Green Bay defense that did surrender 187 rushing yards to a Viking team that just couldn't complement it with anything to speak of through the air. And you can bet that Felix Jones, who returned a kickoff for a TD last Monday, will be worked into the lineup more.

Dallas made Donovan McNabb look better than he really is in last week's game. One might expect the same could happen to Rodgers. The Cowboys probably have most of the fundamental edges, but you'd have to be somewhat hesitant to lay points with a team that has covered just one of its last seven games. However, it does seem that Dallas is content with winning shootouts, and considering Rodgers has to be very confident now, since he's getting over the rough spots, the "rattle" factor would seem to be minimized at Lambeau Field. It is the packers, surprisingly, who have been in a lot of high-scoring games, having played ten of its last eleven games over the total. This is exactly the kind of team that can accommodate them.

Owens will extract an edge over Green Bay's smallish defensive backs. The respective running games of both teams will work. Rodgers will play well under the lights. And somebody like Felix Jones or Charles Woodson breaks a big play or two. This will be a brawl like last Monday; a game of big plays, and we're going OVER the total of 51 points in the BetUS NFL football betting odds.
