Monday Night Football Betting Odds: Falcons vs Saints

Bookmark and Share by Charles Jay

BetUS Sportsbook customers who like to bet pro football are looking at the New Orleans Saints and wondering whether they are seeing the best team in football. On Monday the Saints will play host to the Atlanta Falcons in NFL pro football betting action that kicks off at 8:30 PM ET at the Louisiana Superdome (artificial turf) in New Orleans.

NFL Betting Odds - Pro Football

Atlanta Falcons (4-2 SU & ATS) at New Orleans Saints (6-0 SU & ATS)

Monday, November 2 - 8:30 PM ET

BetUS NFL betting odds:  NEW ORLEANS -10, Total 54.5

In the BetUS NFL betting odds, the Saints are listed as a ten-point favorite, with a posted total of 54.5 points.

Here are some NFL football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

  • ATL has covered four of its last six games
  • ATL has won seven of its last ten games SU
  • ATL has covered two of its last six road games
  • ATL has lost 15 of its last 21 road games SU
  • ATL has played four of its last six road games OVER the total
  • ATL has played 17 of its last 25 road games UNDER the total
  • NO has won and covered its last six games
  • NO has played five of its last seven games OVER the total
  • NO has won and covered seven of its last eight home games
  • NO has played six of its last seven home games OVER the total

Also....

  • NO has covered seven of the last ten meetings
  • NO has won five of the last six meetings SU
  • NO has covered four of the last five meetings as the home team
  • ATL has covered 19 of the last 25 meetings as the road team
  • NO has won five of the last six meetings SU as the home team
  • Four of the last six meetings in New Orleans have gone UNDER the total

The Saints might be reminding some people about the New England Patriots of a couple of seasons ago, or the St. Louis Rams of 1999, in that they have won six straight games to start the season with an average of just under 40 points a game. Each of the six wins has been by a dozen points or more, with a sweep in the NFL betting odds. Almost as much of a concern for defenses as Drew Brees' 14 touchdowns, 8.6 yards an attempt or 1698 yards is the running game he has at his disposal, with Mike Bell or Pierre Thomas (whoever has been healthy) running for around five yards a carry. New Orleans can score points in bunches, and came back from a 24-3 deficit at the hands of the Dolphins last week. Within 37 minutes they had scored 43 points, and included were two more interceptions run back from touchdowns, one of them by Darren Sharper, who now has three TD's on the season.

The logical question that has to be asked here is whether Atlanta can keep pace to enough of an extent to beat the NFL betting odds. It would be a great thing for them if Michael Turner was to get hot, but it doesn't look like that's happening, as he had just 50 yards last week, with his average dropping to 3.4 ypc. Maybe the guy is burned out from last year. Matt Ryan has not been on a hot streak either; the second-year quarterback has been below 200 yards in each of the last two games, with two TD's and two INT's in each. If it becomes a pure shootout, Ryan is probably not as well-equipped as Brees.

Still, you don't want to ignore some of the weapons Ryan works with, particularly tight end Tony Gonzalez (27 catches for 304 yards) and wide receiver Roddy White (435 yards). The Falcons have managed to protect Ryan well also; he was sacked four times by Dallas last week but only twice otherwise. If Atlanta goes down in this very heated rivalry, they're going down swinging.

Are the Saints good for 40 points? Well, maybe not, but with the Falcons' failure to keep opposing running attacks under control (4.6 ypc allowed), it's quite possible Brees can work play action all he wants. New Orleans can get its points, but we are confident in Ryan's ability to hit back. We're most likely looking at a wild one here, and for that reason we're going OVER the 54.5 points as it is posted in the BetUS NFL betting odds.
