While the Miami Dolphins narrowly avoided becoming the first team in NFL betting history to go through an entire 16-game schedule without winning a single game, Miami’s misfortunes in 2007 could actually be a blessing in disguise in the long run for this franchise after owner Wayne Huizenga was forced to reevaluate the direction his team was going in under former GM Randy Mueller and former head coach Cam Cameron.
Now, months after hiring the venerable Bill Parcells to replace Mueller and run the everyday football operations – and watching Parcells hire right-hand man, Tony Sparano to coach the team - the Dolphins could be headed for good things sooner than anyone ever expected.
Even with all of the other sports betting events taking place throughout the summer months, the 2008 NFL wagering season is already looming large in the BetUS Locker Room while the clever oddsmakers at BetUS.com have come up with some interesting regular season win total odds for each NFL franchise in the BetUS Sportsbook Futures section.
Here is a look at the Miami Dolphins’ 2008 schedule and my analysis on just how many wins the BetUS online NFL football wagering community can expect the Dolphins to record this upcoming season.
09/07/08 New York Jets
The Jets are the better team here, but not by much. Win.
09/14/08 @ Arizona Cardinals
Ken Whisenhunt should have the Cards in the playoff hunt this season. Loss
09/21/08 @New England Patriots
Get real, the ‘Fins are going down hard here. Loss
BYE
10/05/08, San Diego Chargers
The Chargers are in the class of the elite and will spank Miami thoroughly. Loss
10/12/08 @Houston Texans
Gary Kubiak has the Texans looking for nine wins in 2008. Loss
10/19/08 Baltimore Ravens
The Dolphins could win, but Baltimore’s defense wins in the end. Loss
10/26/08 Buffalo Bills
The Dolphins take this first meeting at home. Win
11/02/08 @Denver Broncos
The Broncos should be in the playoff hunt in 2008. Loss
11/09/08 Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks are a shell of their former selves –and an upset could happen. Win
11/16/08 Oakland Raiders
Looks like the ‘Fins could record consecutive wins in 2008! Win
11/23/08 New England Patriots
Call it a spanking, rout, blowout … whatever, the Patriots win here. Loss
11/30/08 @St. Louis Rams
If Scott Linehan coaches this game for St. Louis, I say Miami wins. Win
12/07/08 @Buffalo Bills
The Bills return the favor in their division here. Loss
12/14/08 San Francisco 49ers
The Niners took a big, disappointing step backwards last season. Win
12/21/08 @Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs are more of a mess than the Dolphins, but are home here. Loss
12/28/08 @New York Jets
Miami closes out the season with two straight losses but have made progress! Loss
Dolphins Regular Season Wins Odds
Over 5½ Regular Season Wins -110
Under 5½ Regular Season Wins -130
Analysis: I think the oddsmakers really did their homework in setting this Over/Under total absolutely perfectly as the Dolphins should end up right in the neighborhood of the set total, though I have them winning six games while taking their first baby steps toward respectability under Parcells and Sparano.
