Tom Brady is Back!

Fantasy team owners who drafted Tom Brady this year took a collective sigh of relief last night. The old Tom Brady is back.

Brady threw two touchdown passes in his first start since tearing ligaments in his left knee in Week 1 last year against Kansas City. The New England Patriots beat the Eagles 27-25 in the preseason opener Thursday night.

Brady, who used a protective brace, played his first game since the 2008 opener.

Brady ran well in the pocket and showed no lingering effects of his surgically repaired left knee. He threw two touchdown passes to tight end Chris Baker, one in the first quarter and another in the second.

Brady completed 10 of 15 passes for 100 yards with one interception. Bill Belichick didnt hesitate to call on Brady to throw the deep ball and Brady delivered without hesitation. Brady was setting up to throw a deep pass last September when he was knocked out for the season in the first quarter against Kansas City.

The 2007 NFL MVP completed his first pass and threw an incompletion in his first series.

Brady handed off on his first play before tossing a 6-yard pass to Wes Welker out of a shotgun formation. On third-and-4, Brady’s pass for Joey Galloway was broken up.

Brady came out firing on New England’s second possession. He connected with Randy Mossover the middle for 13 yards, then threw a perfect deep ball to Moss down the right sideline. Former Patriots cornerback Asante Samuel was called for pass interference on the play, resulting in a 46-yard gain to the Eagles 18.

Four plays later, Brady found Baker open for a 4-yard TD strike.

Brady’s lone mistake came in the first quarter when he had a pass intercepted by cornerback Sheldon Brown. Brady slammed his helmet in disgust as he took his seat on the bench.

Tom Brady is back.
