NFL Week Four Wagering - Homedogs
by Dave D

After a quiet week with just one NFL home underdog (who failed to cover), its back to business in Week Four. There are four home dogs to examine so let’s take a look.
Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs +9.5
This is a perfect letdown situation for the Denver Broncos after three big wins to start the season. Kansas City is one of the worst teams in the NFL but even so, travelling to Arrowhead Stadium is always tough.
The Chiefs definitely don’t have the weaponry to match the Broncos point-for-point but they what they can do is take advantage of the Broncos feeble defense. If they can run the ball and control the time of possession, they should be able to stick within the near double-digit spread.
Pick: Kansas City +9.5
Buffalo Bills @ St. Louis Rams +8.5
The St. Louis Rams are clearly the worst team in the NFL at this point and their locker room is an utter disaster.
This week, head coach Scott Linehan (who won’t be an NFL head coach for much longer), decided to bench franchise quarterback Marc Bulger in favor of Trent Green. It’s worth noting that just last year the Rams gave Bulger a lucrative multi-million dollar extension while last year, Green nearly retired after suffering a severe concussion.
The Rams players – like Steven Jackson – have voiced their displeasure with the switch and Bulger has even come out and said he doesn’t want to play for Linehan any longer. Stay away from the Rams right now.
Pick: Buffalo -8.5
San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders +7.5
The San Diego Chargers regained their swagger on Monday Night Football, which is bad news for the Oakland Raiders. We mentioned how bad the Rams locker room is but the Raiders clubhouse isn’t a much healthier environment considering their head coach Lane Kiffin is a lame duck waiting to get fired.
The Chargers could be 3-0 at this point but a couple of last-second losses have them at 1-2 and have this betting line much lower than what it should be. The Raiders won’t have Justin Fargas in their backfield and with Darren McFadden banged up, the burden of the offensive workload will fall on JaMarcus Russell’s shoulder. So far he hasn’t proved he’s capable of carrying his team. Bet on the Chargers to roll in this one.
Pick: San Diego -7.5
Philadelphia Eagles @ Chicago Bears +3
The Chicago Bears are a tough team to gage. After winning their season-opener in Indianapolis, they’ve lost back-to-back contest to NFC South opponents, Carolina and Tampa Bay.
Maybe the Bears opening win was more of an indication of how bad the Colts were at the time.
The Eagles are a top-tier team not only in the NFC but in the NFL, which means they’ll be tough to beat every week. They also play pretty well on the road, so the field goal difference shouldn’t deter bettors.
Even though Brian Westbrook is out, look for the Eagles to force some mistakes and get the win at Soldier Field.
Pick: Philadelphia -3
