Week 9 Thoughts and game recaps

Bookmark and Share by Matthew

In a week where there were several home underdogs, the results were fairly predictable. Indeed, Week 9 was Owens-less, but that didn’t stop big name players from grabbing headlines. LaDanian Tomlinson had four touchdowns, Antonio Gates had 135 yards receiving and Rueben Droughns shook off an arrest to have his best game of the season for the Browns.

Falcons 17 Dolphins 10

Atlanta came off a bye week and that meant a healthy Michael Vick. The lefty was very accurate and as a result the Falcons did it in the air and on the ground. On bright spot for Miami was the play of Ricky Williams. The running back had several great bursts and his teammates really responded when he did well.

Bengals 21 Ravens 9

Same old Ravens offense. Man, are they pathetic or what? Cincinnati had a slow start in this one, but I guess Carson Palmer must have had his spinach at halftime. The Bengals’ schedule gets tough from here on in, so it’s a good thing they banked this one. Anyone catch Ray Lewis on the sidelines in this one? Did he ever look like the defensive coordinator or what?

Jaguars 21 Texans 14

The bottom line is Jacksonville got the win. However, it sure wasn’t pretty. Byron Leftwich got a little more help from his receivers, but the truth is he is not throwing anything over 10 yards on any Sunday. Houston battled hard but they just plain suck rocks.

Chargers 31 Jets 26

LaDanian is all San Diego needed in this one, and indecisiveness at the Jet QB position didn’t hurt either. Although, Brooks Bollinger did almost look like an NFL quarterback at times.

Seahawks 33 Cardinals 19

The NFL’s luckiest team got another win, playing one of the league’s worst teams- yet again. Seattle is ready to start celebrating a division title and why shouldn’t they? There really is no competition for them. Arizona should just forfeit their season already.

Bears 20 Saints 17

This was a sloppy affair and it came down to Aaron Brooks blowing it and the Chicago defense coming up big, pretty much the norm for both sides. Rookie Benson finally showed some promise for the Bears, while New Orleans forgot to get Joe Horn the ball throughout this contest.

Panthers 34 Buccaneers 14

Talk about two teams going in opposite directions. Jake Delhomme played well and Chris Simms didn’t. It’s pretty impressive for Carolina to go into Tampa and put up 34 points on a team that only gives up 12 per game. The Panthers should be the prohibitive NFC favorite right now.

Vikings 27 Lions 14

We could see this one coming, as Harrington was the starter at QB for Detroit. Lions fans knew it, Harrington’s family knew it, the broadcasters knew it. Heck, even future generations of football fans knew it. Brad Johnson looked quite comfortable in the Minnesota offense and now the Vikings could be back on track.

Chiefs 27 Raiders 23

As far as the Raiders came over the last few weeks, it all went down the drain with this loss. This was a game they had to have. Heck, it could have even saved Norv Turner’s future. For the Chiefs, they got a gutty effort, one that leaves them only one game out of first place.

Browns 20 Titans 14

Cleveland rode their running game with Reuben Droughns (no he wasn’t pulled over by a ref in this one) to a win. Tennessee just doesn’t have enough to win right now. Cleveland has got to get Braylan Edwards the ball more often if they want to win more games and take the defensive pressure off of Antonio Bryant.

Giants 24 49ers 6

Man, does San Franciso ever hang in ballgames at home. New York had all kinds of trouble on offense early on, but Eli adjusted and the big plays came. I don’t know who the fifth string quarterback is in San Fran, but he has got to be better than Cody Pickett.

Steelers 20 Packers 10

Don’t let the double digit win fool you, the Steelers should have lost this game. It was just sad to see Brett Favre not have the leg strength to move around and get it done when it mattered the most. Bottom line is Green Bay should have won this game.

Redskins 17 Eagles 10

This game was played with a ton of intensity and a couple of bad decisions by Donovan McNabb. Philly’s defense played well enough to get the win, but a late-game blunder by Donovan cost them this win…. Washington is getting a lot out of Arrington on defense lately and that means trouble for the rest of the NFC. Had the Eagles had Owens….oh nevermind…
