Philip Rivers Signs Long Term Extension

What an off-season to be a quarterback in the NFL. First it was Matt Cassel getting the franchise tag after one good year and a $14 million dollar per year pay raise, then it was Eli Manning’s turn to cash in and now it's Philp Rivers who is thickening his wallet.

Terms of the deal were not released but the NFL Network has confirmed the six-year extension is worth $92 million, with somewhere in the neighborhood of $38.5 million guaranteed. CHA-CHING.

This will keep Rivers in the Bolts and Blue through 2015 which good news for Chargers fans as it brings an element of confidence to the team when you have your franchise quarterback locked up to a long term deal.

Rivers took over the starting job in 2006 after the departure of Drew Brees, no easy task. All he’s managed to do is lead the team to the playoffs in each of the past three seasons, starting all 16 games each year. His career record as a starter, including playoffs, is 36-18 (.667), including 22-5 (.815) at home.
