NFL Week 7 Betting Analysis - Seahawks vs. Buccaneers

Bookmark and Share by Mike Rose

NBC’s Sunday Night Football heads south to Raymond James Stadium, and BetUS Sportsbook has all of the football betting action available for the game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-2, 5-1 ATS) and the Seattle Seahawks (1-4, 1-4 ATS).

The Bucs will hope to take out some frustration from three straight defeats to the Seahawks by a combined score of 53-19; Seattle covered the spread in all three games. Unlike each of those previous three meetings, Seattle is no longer amongst the upper echelon of the NFC.

The disastrous year for the Seahawks continued last Sunday afternoon, losing 27-17 at home to the Green Bay Packers as 1-point favorites. QB Charlie Frye had no luck leading the Seahawks offense in place of Matt Hasselbeck. Seattle only managed 64 net passing yards and 177 total yards of offense.

For as bad as some of the offenses have been around the NFL the season, Seahawks bettors may want to turn away from their computer screen. Seattle has only managed 137.6 passing yards per game, the 2nd worst mark in the NFL. Their quarterbacks have a combined rating of 55.03, also 31st in the NFL. That’s a far cry from the offense that owned the 8th best passing yards per game average in the league last year at 247.8.

Oddsmakers disrespected Tampa Bay at home last Sunday, only installing them as 1-point favorites against the Panthers. They dismantled Carolina in every aspect of the game from the get go.

LB Geno Hayes blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown to open the scoring, and the defense did the rest. They picked off QB Jake Delhomme three times and held the Panthers to just 40 rushing yards on 20 carries. QB Jeff Garcia may have solidified himself as HC Jon Gruden’s man under center, as he was efficient, going 15-of-20 for 173 yards and a touchdown last week. RB Warrick Dunn had his best game since returning to Tampa Bay, carrying the ball 22 times for 115 yards.

The final scoreboard read 27-3, another prototypical, “Buc Ball” game that resulted in victories for football bettors backing Tampa Bay and the ‘under’.

There’s no disrespect for the Bucs this week, as they have been tabbed as 10.5-point home favorites over the fledgling Seahawks. The ‘total’ was originally set at 41, but football bettors have bet the line down to 38.

That goes against all logic that the betting trends suggest. Seattle is 21-6-1 for ‘over’ bettors in their L/28 games overall, while Tampa Bay is 6-2 towards the ‘over’ following an ATS victory. Trends also suggest that the Bucs are the right side, as they are 9-3 ATS in their L/12 home games and 10-4-1 ATS in their L/15 games against teams with a losing record. On the flip side, Seattle is just 6-26 ATS in the L/32 games in the month of October.
