NFL Betting Free Picks – The Furious Preview Part 1
by Tim Furious

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Baltimore Ravens
Sunday, September 7th --- M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore --- 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: PICK (39)
Things just don’t seem to be getting better for the Bengals. Their defense is crumbling apart. Their star receiver is having an identity crisis (did his kids have to change their names to Ocho Cinqo as well?). On top of all this, the only way that coach Marvin Lewis could be on a shorter leash is if the owner was literally strangling him.
The Bengals were an atrocious 6-9-1 ATS last season and there is literally no reason for you to pursue insanity by betting on them. People love their ability to score points in bundles, but without a reasonable rushing game
Baltimore may have its own problems, as in the health of desired starter Troy Smith and Willis McGahee, but they are still a team with a strong coaching staff. Even if Willis is injured, McGahee can tear apart a Bengals defensive line which allowed 118.31 rushing yards last season.
NFL Free Pick: Baltimore (UNDER)
New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins
Sunday, September 7th --- Dolphins Stadium, Miami --- 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: NYJ -3.5 (36)
To think that Chad Pennington is going to unleash hell against his former team is called “dreaming” in the betting industry. Don’t get caught thinking that Miami has the chance to tear apart New York because of some inside information the cerebral Pennington may offer. He’ll be too busy focusing on the old man that took his job from him.
Miami is 3-14 ATS when playing teams from the AFC East, and the Jets are one of those teams that are ready to make a serious playoff run. That’s a NFL betting trend that will continue with Brett Favre loading up the Cotchery and Coles running wild on a depleted Miami secondary.
And look for Thomas Jones to have a huge game. The acquisition of Tony Richardson is one of the undersold stories in the AFC. Jones and the morbid Jets rushing attack rebound this year and it starts tonight with the Jets dismantling the Dolphins.
NFL Betting Free Pick: NYJ -3.5 (OVER)
Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots
Sunday, September 6th --- Gillette Stadium, Foxboro --- 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: New England -16.5 (46.5)
New England enters as the favorite to win the Superbowl in our football futures. Kansas City enters the season as the worst team on paper. Who are you betting on?
I wrote earlier that Kansas City is a bit underrated, and they are. Dwayne Bowe is a strong player and I believe Larry Johnson still has something left in the tank. I’m a guy that sides with trends at the end of the day, and New England didn’t satisfy their betting backers with these outrageous spread.
NFL Free Pick: Kansas City +16.5 (OVER)
Houston Texans vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Sunday, September 6th --- Heinz Field, Pittsburgh --- 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: Pit -6.5 (43.5)
If Pittsburgh wants to really showcase this new offense of theirs, than Houston is the team to do it against. They ranked in the bottom quarter of all teams with points allowed, yards allowed and first downs given. A team like Pittsburgh will steamroll through their defense. I love Super Mario Williams and the front line in Houston, but the rest of the squad leaves a lot to be desired. A few bright spots on a dull canvas still gives you a terrible painting at the end of the day (that, or a terrible analogy for a sports column).
I like Houston enough to bet on them down the road. The oft-injured Matt Schaub played in 11 games, and threw for 2,241 yards and 9 touchdowns but only had one weapon. Not so ironically, it’s the oft-injured Andre Johnson who still led the team in receiving yards despite only playing in nine games. He’s a force of nature when he’s on the field, but Pittsburgh’s pass defense was third in the league and didn’t regress at all this summer.
A general rule of thumb we learned last season was to never bet against Pittsburgh at home. That is, of course, they’re playing the Jacksonville Jaguars.
NFL Free Pick: Pittsburgh -6.5 (UNDER)
