Monday Night Football Betting – Drew Brees To Take Spotlight Against Vikings

Bookmark and Share by Tim Furious

While I will always dog the Saints for their inability to play defense, they’ve been rewarding their betting backers this year. By going 3-1 ATS on the season, despite a 2-2 SU record, the Saints are proving a force in the betting world. They have to prove they can continue that against the Vikings, perhaps the biggest letdown in NFL betting this season.

The Vikings have averaged 139.5 rushing yards, a paltry 171.5 passing yards and only 17.8 points per game. For a team that runs so damn well, it’s surprising that they can’t get their asses in the endzone. Certainly Gus Ferrotte has something to do with it, but the Vikings couldn’t string two good series together to save their skins, and their passing defense remains one of the worst in the league.

The Saints have the same defensive ineptitude, but the Vikings don’t have the personnel to capitalize on that weakness. Instead, Drew Brees will continue to unleash hell through the skies against the Vikings deplorable secondary. Reggie Bush will likely be used as a receiver to take advantage of the secondary deficiencies. Brees in a dome is going to be hell for any Vikings betting investor.

NFL Betting Trends

-Minnesota is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games

-Minnesota is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games on the road

-Minnesota is 7-1 SU in their last 8 games when plying New Orleans

-new Orleans is 7-16-1 ATS in their last 24 games at home

-New Orleans is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against Minnesota

The Vikings seem to have the Saints’ number, but I just don’t see Drew Brees falling flat against this defense. They only way is if the deadly front line of the Vikings can consistently penetrate into the backfield and kill the play. Though they’ve been strong, Deuce McAllister and Pierre Thomas should be strong enough to buy Brees some more time and also run play-action to distract the big men from Minnesota.

Minnesota Vikings (1-3) vs. New Orleans Saints (2-2)

Monday, October 6th --- Superdome, New Orleans --- 8:30pm EST

NFL Betting Line: New Orleans -3 (46.5)

The Saints are one of those teams that seems to be doing a good job of protecting their bettor’s funds in our sportsbook. There’s no reason to lean away from them now, not with a 3-point spread with them playing at home. Minnesota is approaching a hopeless pitt of doom with a pending loss on national television. Adrian Peterson will bulldoze this defense into the dirt, but Minnesota still can’t score in the red zone enough times to match the brilliant aerial scoring of Drew Brees and the Saints.

NFL Free Pick: New Orleans -3 (OVER)
