Iraqi Detainees Retaliate at USA with Favre Jokes

The wide world of sports reaches even further than you or I would believe. How far you ask? The detainees at a National Guard prison camp in Iraq, which is run by a Wisconsin military division, use Brett Favre as a manner of getting at the guard troops.

"They know Favre by name," said First Lieutenant Tim Boehnen, who is from New Richmond, Wis.

"One of the big words they know now is shenanigan.  They'll constantly talk about 'Favre shenanigans,' 'He's so good for the Vikings,' and 'The Packers have got to really feel bad about that one.'  "

This all goes back to when Favre was still a Packer and the camp was decorated in Green Bay Green with Favre clearly the center piece in the majority of the wall art.

"We spend a lot of time painting and making our compound our own and representing us.  Obviously, wherever Wisconsinites go, we bring the Packers with us."

With little else to do, the detainees became curious as to who this Brett Favre character was. Over time they learned how much this football player meant to the Wisconsin guards and that he was a hero of sorts.

"They obviously then started up the conversations, and started talking about Brett Favre”.

Well, the hilarity of the whole situation is that when Brett Favre signed with the rival Minnesota Vikings, the detainees soon learned the seriousness of the situation.

“They soon learned about Favre going to the Vikings, and things just started going downhill from there."

In a place that couldn’t be further from the Minnesota/Wisconsin rivalry, Brett Favre’s impact can still be felt. God bless sports.
