Cowboys Look to Shake off First Loss against Winless Bengals

Bookmark and Share by Eric Williams

While the Dallas Cowboys, (3-1 SU, 2-2-0 ATS, 2-2-0 O/U) lost their first game of the season in losing to the surprising Washington Redskins 26-24 at home no less, the ‘Boys’ don’t figure on having much trouble beating the winless Cincinnati Bengals, (0-4 SU, 1-3-0 ATS, 1-3-0 O/U) in this matchup.

The Redskins held the Cowboys to a season-low 344 total yards, while the Dallas defense was shredded for a season-high 381 yards.

"The reality of it is, you have the opportunity to go 16-0 every year in the regular season, but that's not realistic," said quarterback Tony Romo. "We're a confident bunch. I think we'll come back next week with a lot to prove."

Romo completed 28 of 47 passes for 300 yards with three touchdown and one interception, but the Cowboys ran the ball just 11 times for a grand total of 44 yards.

The Cowboys also had to deal with head case Terrell Owens’ first blow-up following the game, after he complained that he should have seen more passes thrown his way against the Skins.

"It's no secret, when I get involved, we move the chains. When I don't, we're more stagnant in our offense," said Owens who had seven catches for 71 yards, 11 yards rushing on two reverses and at least 11 other plays designed for him.

The Bengals are ranked 31st in total offense, averaging 249.8 yards per contest while also ranking 30th in scoring, averaging just 13.0 points per game. Defensively, Cincinnati is ranked 19th overall and a surprising fourth against the pass, (165.8 ypg), but have had big-time problems trying to stop the run. Cincinnati is ranked 28th in run defense, giving up 164.2 rushing yards per game and took a 20-12 loss on the chin to division rival Cleveland on Sunday.

Cincinnati will also be without starting quarterback Carson Palmer who is nursing a sore elbow.

The Bengals will turn to backup, Ryan Fitzpatrick who threw three interceptions and finished as Cincinnati's leading rusher with 41 yards on four scrambles.

"If Ryan Fitzpatrick is the guy as we go forward this week, we go into it a little differently," Lewis said. "That's the way we'll have to approach it. More than likely, the coaches will have to prepare to play with Fitzpatrick, and everybody has to understand that."
