Canadian Football League Power Poll Week 2
by Mike Rose

Week 1 of the CFL betting season is in the books, and now that sports betting fanatics have had one glance at the teams, there’s some great information to work with. Check out this week’s list of the top CFL teams through one week of play!
1) Montreal Alouettes (1-0 ATS, 1-0 SU) (LW: 2) No one made a statement in Week 1 like the Alouettes. They went on the road and got a measure of revenge for LY’s Grey Cup defeat by beating the Stamps 40-27 on Canada Day. It’s going to be very difficult for any opposing defence to hold this offence under 400 yards, as it feels like QB Anthony Calvillo has the ability to throw for 300-350 yards every week, while RB Avon Cobourne is always scampering for 100+ yards of his own.
On Deck: Home vs. Eskimos
2) Saskatchewan Roughriders (1-0 ATS, 1-0 SU) (LW: 6) The Riders played a tremendous defensive game against the Lions on Friday night, notching a whopping nine sacks. QB Darian Durant had some great numbers (18/32 for 313 yards), but three interceptions thrown shows there’s still some work left to do.
On Deck: Away @ Argonauts
3) Toronto Argonauts (1-0 ATS, 1-0 SU) (LW: 7) Head Coach Bart Andrus got off to a great start in his CFL career when he guided the Argos to a comfortable ‘W’ against the Ti-Cats on Canada Day. The Boatmen are running the ball more and playing better defence, a combination which could see them make some noise in the weak East.
On Deck: Home vs. Roughriders
4) Edmonton Eskimos (0-1 ATS, 1-0 SU) (LW: 3) We’ll give the Eskies the benefit of the doubt since they dominated the Bombers for the majority of their game, only to get backdoored at the end. QB Ricky Ray and the offence were slowed down by Mother Nature, as 322 total yards of offence just isn’t good enough on a weekly basis for the green and gold.
On Deck: Away @ Alouettes
5) Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1-0 ATS, 0-1 SU) (LW: 8) The debut of QB Stefan LeFors wasn’t exactly a flawless one, as he completed just 14-of-31 passes for 174 yards. He didn’t make the big mistake though, and because of that, the Bombers lived to punt a number of times and often won the battle of field position. Still, this team has to shore up many deficiencies if it expects to get the best of the Stampeders In their home opener next week.
On Deck: Home vs. Stampeders
6) Calgary Stampeders (0-1 ATS, 0-1 SU) (LW: 1) Yikes! The champs looked like chumps against Montreal on Wednesday night, particularly at the beginning of the game. The Stamps were down 20-0 in the blink of an eye, and though they did a nice job of coming back and tying the Als in the 3rd quarter, couldn’t muster up enough to pick up the ‘W’ in a game they were heavily favored in.
On Deck: Away @ Blue Bombers
7) British Columbia Lions (0-1 ATS, 0-1 SU) (LW: 4) BC has a lot of questions to answer on its offensive line, which conceded nine sacks against Saskatchewan on Friday night. Questionable coaching decisions by HC Wally Buono really gave the Leos no chance in a game that they played well enough to win. Things will get better for BC bettors in the future.
On Deck: Home vs. Tiger-Cats
8) Hamilton Tiger-Cats (0-1 ATS, 0-1 SU) (LW: 5) Here’s a familiar sight for Tabbies’ fans… Their team is ranked dead last in the league. No team looked worse in Week 1 than the Ti-Cats, and it seems as though high expectations of a new and improved Hamilton team were misguided in the early going.
On Deck: Away @ Lions
