NCAA Football Futures - The Heisman Race Week 3
by Tim Furious

All eyes in the college football betting world will be on the USC Trojans this week. A name you can expect to be in this list next weekend, if USC wins, is Mark Sanchez. However, until that time this list belongs to the mainstays still.
Nobody is more impressive thus far than Knowshon Merono, but he’s being pressed by the usual suspects. Check below to see who’s rising and who’s falling behind in the Heisman race, and who you should be gambling on to bring back some bucks in the futures section of our sportsbook!
Sam Bradford (QB) – Oklahoma Sooners
Sucks to be you, Cincinnati! Well, we all know it sucks to be in Cincinnati. Between the Reds, the Bengals, the Bearcats and the city itself, the home of Procter and Gamble paid witness to Bradford’s 395 yard, 5 touchdown performance. He had two untimely picks, but Bradford’s completion percentage (77%) is astounding. The Heisman contender fell short after stumbling down the home stretch last season, so let’s hope he keeps this up.
Next Matchup: Oklahoma -20.5 vs. Washington
Knowshon Merono (RB) – Georgia Bulldogs
That’s the second weekend in a row that Knowshon notched three rushing touchdowns. Tallying 168 yards against Central Michigan, the Bulldogs superstar is rumbling and stumbling towards the finish line in the Heisman race with gumption. Not only is he a decisive, quick and powerful runner, he’s also a big playmaker who can crack open a game at any second.
Next Matchup: Georgia -8 vs. South Carolina
Tim Tebow (QB) – Florida Gators
Where’d all the rushing touchdowns go? The only reason the junior from Florida was able to capitalize in a disappointing season with the Heisman was his outstanding numbers. This year, he only has 393 passing yards, 92 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. He needs big numbers to overcome a Heisman class that is pulling away in the race already.
Next Matchup: BYE
Patrick Pickney (QB) – ECU Pirates
The Pirates are sailing out of the dock in to the sea of NCAA college football betting with a 2-0 start, and a huge upset over West Virginia stowed away in the belly of their bow. Pickney threw for 236 yards and a score in what proved to be an exciting and thrilling game that put ECU in the top-15 of the AP Rankings, and put him on the outside looking in on the Heisman Race.
The East Carolina quarterback has to put up silly numbers to stay in the race, especially with such a thick quarterback classes. The college betting odds are that he won’t last in the race, but that won’t matter to him if ECU is able to stay in the national spotlight.
Next Matchup: ECU -13.5 vs. Tulane
FALLING FAST (AND HARD)
Chris “Beanie” Wells (RB) – Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes star has a bum foot, and faces a fast and furious USC front-seven this weekend in the Game of the Week in our BetUS sportsbook. He still has 111 rushing yards and a touchdown, but he’s going to need to get his number up now that he’s missed a game.
The fate of the Buckeyes, and Wells’ Heisman hopes, lies in his hands this weekend. Bet now before that stock rises, in what I predict will be an OSU upset.
Next Matchup: OSU vs. USC -10
Pat White (QB) – West Virginia
Interested in coming back for a graduate degree, Steve Slaton? Pat White was held to just 169 total yards from scrimmage with zero touchdowns after a blazing effort. Pickney rightfully takes his spot after West Virginia’s loss to the ECU Pirates. The only other thing falling faster than White’s Heisman dreams is their rankings in the Associated Press. WVU has dropped all the way to twenty-fifth.
Next Matchup: BYE
RISING STARS
Jahvid Best (RB) – California Golden Bears
Best may not be a household name, but if he continues to have 311 yard days with 4 touchdowns, he will be. The California betting backers can rest easy with Best carrying the pigskin in California, but Best’s team needs to keep winning if he’s going to stay in the race. An outside shot at best, who knows where this guy will end up in the long run.
Next Matchup: California -11.5 vs. Maryland
Colt McCoy (QB) – Texas Longhorns
We all know what McCoy is capable of as a gunslinger, but his consistency and will to win have been called in to question. The guy is a junior now, so the pressure is on. They have a big 23-point handicap against Arkansas this weekend and if McCoy can put together another 5 touchdown performance then he’ll start to get the voters’ confidence…along with more betting backers for the Longhorns.
Next Matchup: Arkansas vs. Texas -23.5
