Oregon Needs to Win Big Against Arizona to Stay in Race

After getting overlooked for the much more popular USC Trojans, Oregon was helped out immensely by the Stanford upset. Too bad that the Cardinals gave the Ducks an upset of their own to match. Ranked 11th in the country gives Oregon a delightful chance of challenging for the Pac-10. The formula is even simpler: win in Arizona and you’re practically there.

The Ducks have been all over the map this season, logging a huge win over USC but suffering a huge loss to Stanford. That stands as their only conference loss in the Pac-10 which makes them the most credible team in the conference. A win in Arizona all but secures their invitation to Pasadena.

LaMichael James has been outstanding as a stand in for LeGarrette Blount after Blount was suspended for punching a Boise State player during the inaugural game of the season. The Ducks ranks sixth in the nation in rushing with 237.0 yards on the ground, and much of that success goes to James who notched 150-yards and three scores in last weekend’s win over Arizona State.

The home defense of the Wildcats isn’t bad, and they allow just 83.0 yards on the ground at home. But they’ll be sorely tested by the combination of Blount and James and that duo could stand as the best in the league if used correctly.

NCAAF Betting Line: Oregon -6 (60)

Bolstering the offense in general is Jeremiah Masoli, who has 9 rushing touchdowns this season and 11 passing scores to boot. Mike Stoops, the coach of the Wildcats, is remaining positive that his team can respond to the challenge, but Oregon has shown little weaknesses outside of a porous game against a Stanford team that is frankly much better than we thought.

The Ducks aren’t the greatest team in football, but they’re certainly better than their ranking indicates. A win against the college sports betting line is in hand for you if you side with the Ducks and this marginal spread. Oregon is 4-2 ATS in their last six visits to Tucson and are 7-1 ATS overall in their past 8 games.
