NCAA Football Free Picks - Michigan vs. Penn State

Online sportsbook customers and NCAA football betting sharps will have an exciting sports wagering opportunity this weekend as one of the most storied rivalries in college football resumes.

To put it plainly, Michigan has absolutely owned Penn State over the past nine seasons. The Nittany Lions have long been thought of as a mediocre squad, a Big Ten doormat team content with qualifying for low-level bowl games to keep their program alive and well-funded. Criticism was beginning to flood in regarding head coach Joe Paterno, as well. NCAA football betting experts suggested that “JoePa” was too old to coach college football, and that he wasn’t active enough in the team’s dealings.

However, it would appear that the NCAA’s winningest coach has absolutely everything under control this year, after all. After becoming a “defense only” type squad in recent years, Penn State unveiled something that had been missing for the better part of a decade: An offense. Quarterback Daryll Clark has emerged as an accurate, yet mobile pivot capable of putting up big numbers. And that’s exactly what he’s done, leading the Nittany Lions to a 7-0 start.

For Michigan, it’s been an entirely different story. In a season that was supposed to be a massive turnaround, after 2007 was marred by an embarrassing loss to Appalachian State, the Wolverines have come out and embarrassed themselves once again. Rich Rodriguez has employed the Spread Offense, which was expected to be the savior of the program. The problem is…nobody taught Michigan anything about pass protection. Wolverines quarterbacks have been sacked eight times already this season, a tell-tale sign that the Spread can’t work with this bunch. In fact, Michigan starts just one senior on the offensive side of the ball—kind of a tough task.

This has all the makings of an absolute blowout. After Michigan fans chanted and claimed that the Wolverines “owned” Penn State, rest assured that the Nittany Lions will be playing hungry and looking for revenge. NCAA betting lines opened at a whopping 23 points in favor of Penn State, and with Clark and his sidekick, running back Evan Royster at the helm, there’s no reason why they can’t cover the spread.

If I were Steven Threet, I’d be having nightmares about Linebacker U at this point!
